So yesterday I was advised to change the names of my show folders from how they were downloaded, to Plex’s naming system instead, as apparently that’s what was causing a sudden and new issue where shows were separating and not registering as the same show where it should be collected as one under one name. So instead of ‘Travelers’ containing three seasons inside, they were in their own folder on my Plex library homepage. However after doing this to some and not others, I’m finding the shows I didn’t rename to be slotting together fine, whereas the ones I did rename, as the ones STILL causing this issue after fixing the LMA up/down problem. Really, what gives here?
Show us your file names and structures.
PLEX > TV SHOWS > THE TUNNEL > THE TUNNEL SEASON 1
THE TUNNEL SEASON 2
THE TUNNEL SEASON 3
That is literally exactly how I’ve named them. Season 1 and 2 sit together on my Plex library when I upload them, but season 3 is separate under its own The Tunnel heading.
Literally, Exactly Wrong.

A TV Show Library/ <---library aimed here - nowhere else.
.......The Tunnel
.........Season 01/

If you’re using MP4 files:
It is better to follow the format:
/TV Shows
/THE TUNNEL
/Season 01
/Season 02
Why is it sorting Season one and two correctly, and season three incorrectly then? when they’re named exactly the same with the only difference being the number of the season? why is it sorting seasons correctly when I haven’t renamed them at all the way you want me to? there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
Hey, Buddy - why do things go South when I stop following the instructions?
I don’t know, but my Dad called those guys and me fools - so I stopped doing it a long time ago.
I have done this with 12 Monkeys, and it still wants to separate them. therefore I do not want to do it with the rest as it seems like it’s gonna be a waste of my time. i’m not trying to be a pain in the ass here, been using plex fine for months, but suddenly its freaking out when before I had no issues with file names and placements whatsoever.
Your structures and file names are so bad Plex doesn’t know whether to wind it’s watch or scratch it’s ass.
You MUST have a valid structure and file names for TV Shows.
There is no other way.
You MUST aim Plex to ONLY the TV Show Library Folder - not the TV Shows within.
If you want help fixing this:
Show us a screenshot of your TV Show Library - from the root out to the episode. Like this:
Filebot named every episode in both of those seasons in less than a second.
Only adherence to the standard can give you consistent results. Many times an odd naming convention can work, until it doesn’t. Even after redoing everything you may need to refresh your meta-data using The Plex Dance ™
I followed the instructions, and Its not doing anything. Now, after changing The Tunnel - Season One / Two / Three, to Season One / Two / Three, this is exactly as it’s titled on my Plex library. The instructions I’m following are not fixing the problem. Those suggestions I’ve ignored however (Big Little Lies is titled - Big Little Lies S01 BluRay 720p x264) is actually uploading together as I want.
If you want to cooperate - I’ll help.
If you refuse to cooperate - I’m out.
It’s Season 1 or Season 01 not Season One just to clarify
…
Yes, still happening. It’s just uploading titled Season 1 now. It’s not even registering in my library as The Tunnel anymore.
Replied to Dave - Meant for Tommo - apologies.
Season 1 will work.
I use Season 01 because that’s what Filebot does - and it’s what’s in the instructions.
To do this right:
1)Remove The Tunnel from the Library to a place of safe keeping where Plex can’t see it.
2) Fix the file names and structures outside of Plex’s View.
3) scan library
4) see show is gone - completely.
5) empty trash
6) clean bundles
7) put ‘Fixed’ TV Show back into TV Show Library
8) scan library
That is called The Plex Dance and if you hate doing that - join the club - but also know how important it is to use valid TV Show naming and structuring so you can AVOID the Plex Dance - if possible.
Before doing any of that - do this:
Yes, that looks good.
(set the options of your File Manager to show file extensions - that helps everyone)
Empty Trash/Clean Bundles
Put the show back in the library.

Looks like the rest of his TV Shows folder structure needs help…
Suggestion; Should use in the folder name the (Year) because of all the reboots…
Got that right, it’s a mess. I’m off to have a smoke…
Nope - there is no year in the name at TVDB.
