Repeatable MPEG2 crash/reboot on Roku Ultra with Live TV

Server Version#: 1.41.2.9200 Linux
Player Version#: 7.28 build 7 on a Roku Ultra, model 4800RW running OS 14.0.

  • Head to Live TV.
  • Navigate to the program guide and stream any 1080i station from an HDHomeRun.
  • Press the back button one time to pull up the guide while the video plays beneath it.
  • Wait one to five seconds and Roku will crash and reboot.

This is 100% repeatable for me.

Disabling “Experimental 1080p MPEG2” made no difference.

Disabling “Enable MPEG2” lets me watch TV without a reboot, but now I’m transcoding everything.

Note: These crash/reboots do not happen at all on a Roku Streaming Stick+, model 3810X.

After un/re-installing the Plex app and seeing no improvement, I was able to fix this by factory resetting the Roku Ultra.

I can now start a 1080i MPEG2 stream of live TV, nagivate back to the guide, and the Roku will no longer reboot.

The factory reset also managed to repair a separate UI element display issue with the Plex app.
