Roku player 6.6 build 10 crashes whenever I try to watch live TV.
After buffering, when playback starts the player crashes and returns back to the main roku menu.
I see the same behaviour over multiple roku devices.
I forgot to add, live tv from the same server works perfectly with windows, web, PS4 and Android clients so not a server problem.
I had this problem when I first setup my HDHomeRun too; when I configured Plex to transcode during recording from the tuner, instead of sending MPEG-2 to the Roku for playback, the problem disappeared. Something about the MPEG-2 streams makes the Roku unhappy.
Thanks, but this isn’t a new setup. I’ve been using the roku for live TV quite happily for a couple of years and it worked fine till recently. I haven’t changed anything in either the server or player setup so I’m presuming something has changed in a recent update. I’m also presuming it was a Roku update, rather than a server update, that caused the problem as other players all work ok.
My presumptions may be completely wrong of course…
I only had this problem with certain programs, so this could be a decoding issue that is only triggered by a particular combination of data in the program. If you’ve started watching new programs, new channels, or the broadcaster has changed their encoding configuration… any of these could trigger the issue that I had.
Ah, fair point. I will experiment and see if I can come up with anything.
One difference is that it’s crashing the player now - when I’ve seen problems in the past it would give an error of some sort, but the whole app crashing is new for me.
Did you experience that or just errors within the app?
We had all sorts of problems, including app crashes. It was very frustrating…
This evening I found one of my roku devices had updated from roku 6.6 build 10 to roku 6.6 build 11 and now played live tv perfectly.
The others were still on roku 6.6 build 10 and still crashed, but on manually initiating the update to roku 6.6 build 11 they all worked too.
So it seems it was a roku player problem after all.
