For the past several weeks I have been having problems consistently finding/connecting to my local windows server from my fire tv app and from my android app. The windows app works fine and the web browser connection works fine. This is all local on my home network.
When I start the app the arrow spins around in my home screen, then i eventually get an error that plex can’t find my server. No matter how often i press the retry button, it cannot connect.
This happens for every category except playlists. I am able to see my playlists and play the movies in them. However, even after playing a movie for a few minutes from my playlist, when i go back to the home screen, it still says that it cannot find my plex server.
I have only found two ways around this.
Log out of the Plex app, then log back in. After entering in the code from the app at plex.tv/start, the app is able to find the server again.
Kill the server and restart it. After restarting the server, the app can see the server again.
I have been using plex for years, so I know it is set up correctly and it is not a problem with firewalls or permissions or anything like that.
This is super annoying and really makes plex practically unusable. Any help would be appreciated.
I’m not sure if the exact server and player versions (in not home right now), but the player is the latest version available as it auto updates, the the server is the newest stable release as it a week ago.
I have the same issue. Has worked for years, but something has changed recently. I have multiple devices able to connect all on the same network.
Except one Fire TV.
The home page will load. The playlists show up ( though a couple of the images on them are blank). I’m able to load a playlist, and play one song. Once the first song plays nothing else will play. All the other content on the home screen ( movies, television, photos, etc… ) have the orange triangle exclamation next to them. If you try and look into one of those categories you have the check server, unable to connect error.
As you’ve indicated. You can log-out/log-in, reboot the server, and get it to load those categories only for a short while.
I don’t think this is a server issue. I think it’s a client issue. I hadn’t updated the server for a very long time, when this issue started. I have since updated to see if it would fix it ( obviously didn’t ). Automatic updates on the client have bit me before ( i.e. Crappy Nappy )
If you find a solution, could you please post… Thanks.
I am having this exact same issue. All my Android TV devices try to load the home screen and then eventually its say it can find the server. If I retry the connection, it will eventually connect and the Home screen loads. I really don’t want to go and manually sideload an older version of the app on all my devices.
