Server Version#:1.23.5.4841
Player Version#:
Hi. Apologies in advance, I am not a techie in any way! I have been using plex as a media server for years, to watch content on my hard drive on devices around my home and on mobile devices. However, since updating to the latest version, I get the message posted in the title on every device. The app shows everything in my libraries but I get the same message when trying to play anything. It all works direct from the app on the pc but nowhere else. Can anyone help??
Can’t help sorry - just posting to say that since I updated the server yesterday, I’ve had exactly the same problem.
I can confirm the same behaviour. I get this message when I try to stream from my Samsung (DVD-Player) based app. It does however work, when I stream Browser based or via Chromecast.
I’m not experiencing this problem but just out of curiosity on the devices giving you issues have you tried signing out of the account then sign back in ?(log off then Log back in)
yes, on the TV I signed out and back in again, changed the network from wireless to wired several times, basically changed anything to do with networking several times and nothing solves the problem. I can see the media files on the server from the TV, I just can’t play them. I watched an episode directly on the server (via the web browser) and the TV even saw that the next episode number had incremented but it just refuses to play anything.
Sorted my problem - I bought an Amazon Firestick, which works perfectly with my server. I think the problem was the very old player app on the 7 year old TV, 2.005 I think the number was and I could find no way of updating it, as the update function just responded with no updates available.
As rids57 says later, the server is no longer compatible with the app on your tv. The most obvious solution is to update the app and if this is not possible, downgrade the server.
I had the same problem suddenly appearing a few days ago. I have a 2013 Samsung smart tv. The app cannot be updated any longer (also 2.005 version btw). So I downgraded to plex.media.server v: 1.23.2.4656-1 (a version from June which I remember it worked). This solved the problem.
I had the same issue with an older Samsung F series from 2013 (UE40F5300) -with Plex client 2.05 -after I updated our Plex server to 1.24.3.5033.
I now have it working fine natively on the TV - no downgrade to server or Firestick with updated client is required.
The solution is to delete the Plex app from the TV and then reinstall it from the Samsung app library. This forces the TV to install the latest Plex client for the older Samsung models which appears to be 2.013. Launch the Plex app and then re-login/ pair the TV to your Plex account and all should be well.
