Reproducible Bug: Close Captions on Apple TV doesn't always works.

I’m using PMS 1.8.3.4235 on the Mac with HDHomeRun CONNECT. Plex 1.16 on the 4th Gen Apple TV. When I go to the Live TV section and picked a show that is currently live, do get the closed captions that is passed through to my TV. However, when I exit back to the currently live shows and go back to the same show again, no closed captions is being displayed. I went to a different live channel and still no joy. What I did to ‘fix’ the issue was to kill the Plex TV app on Apple TV, and go in again and it works fine. Closed captions stopped working when I exit the show and watch live on any channel. Kill the app again and it’ll work fine for the first show I picked.

One thing I noticed is that after I killed the app and when I picked a show, it start playing the show very quickly with almost no delay (no transcoding?) After i quit the show, and try again, Plex will show the spinning icon for like 5 seconds and play the live video with no captions (look like transcoding is in use for that?).

I’m deaf and I love the ability to watch the local news with closed captions.

Some more follow up on this issue:

Out of curiosity, I decided to record a show off the air and play back on the Apple TV. At first, it didn’t display the closed captions, so I killed the app, and played the show again and it displayed the closed captions perfectly. I don’t have any of the issues on the Plex app on the iPhone, it works perfectly all the time. Something is not clearing properly when Apple TV plays a show after the first time (after killing the app).

there is clearly a bug… i will try killing to see… didn’t notice that before except that subtitles didn’t work for dvr shows on apple tv…
