Request: Android client manually flip "watched" status

I’d still love to see the Subject on this one. I don’t necessarily watch all my Plex “managed” content with Plex clients (my main TV has a media streamer that supports ISOs which Plex does not) and having to go down to my PC to toggle watched status when I have two Android phones and an Android tablet is kind of annoying.

Happy to beta test it

I just joined up as a PlexPass member since I could still get in on the lifetime membership (despise monthly/yearly “subscriptions”). Thanks to Elan and the rest for offering that option.

It looks like some ReaadyNAS build bugs have been ironed out and I can try to upgrade my PMS server again tonight (I had the grey screen disease with the first go around) and play with Plex/Web and the new PC client on a VM! I also just learned of a Plex client (emplexer) for my media streamer (Dune HD Smart D1) that I can’t wait to try. I also haven’t updated my Roku Plex client in ages. SO little time…

Thanks for reading!

Good idea +1

LOL, thanks. I guess I don't understand why this was not "baked in" from the get go for Android?? Is there some magical technical reason with Android that I am not understanding??

Tonight I updated the Plex clients around my house since I updated the backend server on my ReadyNAS last night. Unlike the first version with Plex/Web that was messed up on the ReadyNAS build 6-8 weeks ago, the current one works just great and the management UI is *MUCH* faster than the Plex Media Manager was. Kudos!! Playing through the Web interface also works well. It's nice to have but I am not sure how much "use" it will get for me. I do most of my watching of Plex content via devices with Plex clients or through other players (media streamer on main TV, MPC-HC x64 on my PC) since Plex no worky with DVD or BR ISOs, of which I have a few I have made. I can see using Plex/Web to maybe preview content or take a look but then use a client client to watch content on my PC. If I get more into "channels" I might be inclined to view that content thru Plex/Web if I stumble thru some channels when doing other Plex related "maintenance" in the manager part of things.

The clients on my Roku, Samsung 2010 BR player and LED TV--all of these have always had the watched toggle as far as I can tell. I have no doubt if I paid again for Plex on my old iPod Touch G2 I could toggle it using that client. Some Android love please devs!! :) We all know it's 2013 now and not 2010 when it comes to iOS penetration, right?? :)

Disappointing to find this missing.

+1x1000000

Bumping my own post.

I mean, how is it that this feature is NOT in the Android client?? It’s not like someone “forgot” to put it in. It’s not a technical issue. I can get the feature in a Roku or Samsung client that have way way under the penetration of potential Android clients–worldwide!!!

What is the deal? Strange politics? I want to know!! What is up with this?? When will it be addressed?? When will this missing core function be ADDED as it should have been when the app was first rolled out? Sorry, but all the other “want this” features and new whatevers for the Android client need to get in line behind this.

Unless of course the goal is to strip the Android client of key features. Maybe next month we can have audio removed?

So only “users” care to post on this thread. Good thing we all plus upped to PlexPass status for extra care right!

Google TV client (cough cough, same Android codebase??) also lacks this it would seem.

WHY???

It’s 2013. I think Android is mature enough as a platform to have this baked into the client. It’s in the Samsung and Roku clients. Which makes no sense. I could probably go pick up a log in the woods and carve Plex into it and the option would appear. Just not on Android or Google TV.

Come on now.

We’re adding it

Thank you Elan!! :)

I hate to beat such a dead horse, it just seems so off to me that it was "left out" so to speak and can't wait to have it available!

As an aside, I added another Plex client type to my network today. The client emplexer which is for Dune HD media streamers like the Smart D1 unit I have. It's a more bare bones type of client because of the constraints of the device from a CPU perspective but the strengths of the device are that it plays almost anything (even if the Plex client can't do so yet, like Blu-Ray ISOs). And yes it does let you toggle watched status manually ;) It's a good addition to have. I can probably start to use it and train "my users" as well for most content versus back and forth with the Dune streamer and simple SMB file share clicking...and the Plex client on my Samsung TV and/or Blu-Ray player. While Plex clients will toggle watched status once something is viewed when I view something via the Dune and SMB, that is when I need to toggle the status manually before I forget and it would be nice to do so from my phone (Android) instead of having to go downstairs to the PC to do it.

I saw something from CES 2013 where the next gen Dune players on the high end were going to have an embedded XBMC client, too bad it is not Plex!

I am reply to myself. I just had the thought to try using the Plex/Web interface from my Android tablet using the Chrome browser and it works fine just a touch slower than the native client. But it lets me change the status until it's in the real Android client at least. Can't believe I didn't think of that when I signed up for PlexPass and got Plex/Web! :)

This feature is now in the new PlexPass Android client, thanks Elan and all!!

The new client looks great! After I set up my network devices manually to allow the PMS to publish everything worked.

But that made me think. What all detail is being sent to and cached by Plex operated servers?? My entire video collection?? I understand the idea of locking down new features to PlexPass people. But on the other hand I had to do all this to open my library up even though I don't plan on using it remotely at the moment. And if I did plan on using it remotely I would do it myself with VPNs and such. I don't need a PlexPass to tell me how to do network security tho I understand that some would like that for the ease of the use. But unlike the normal client/server Plex deal, I could only make the PlexPass Android Beta work by "publishing" my server. It makes me nervous.

So what all is being transmitted, stored, how, why, etc??
