Request for enhanced offline modus for clients using cloudSync content
This feature request applies mainly for users syncing content to the cloud.
As for today not everybody uses this feature but it will become more popular with time. Therefore I hope for seeing this implemented possibly soon.
At least for the Android App (I cannot tell for other clients) there is the option to place the device in offline modus. In this modus you can play synced content stored locally without connecting to a running server.
Unfortunately going offline also cuts off the client from the cloud.
User the CloudSync-feature I would love to have it modified in a way that it allows staying online in reference to the cloud but at the same time offline from the server.
The background to this request is that I’m using - like probably many others - WOL to get my server running only when I want to play content through my clients.
Unfortunately the server keeps running as long as any client is up even if there is no real need for it, while content from the cloud is being plaid.
Example:
Listening to backgroundmusic streamed from the cloud at the office through my tablet keeps my server at home up and running for many hours every day without any need for it.
This is basically just wasting resources.
Other benefits:
This option would prevent the cloudSync-sections (or if set differently the sections from the main server) from showing up twice on clients like PHT.
Lower electricity consumption and longer life for components: just this would cover abundantly the costs of the cloud storage (and a Plex Pass of course)
