Request for nearline/Stub/HSM Storage

I would love to see some sort of support for stubs/files offline but requested in plex. Currently, I’m keeping a lot of my rips online via a NAS, but I would like the ability to shut down my NAS and still have my library show that I have the video, but it is not currently online. Bonus points for a way for users to request the file to be online with some sort of job to grab it and move locally for viewing when the storage is online. I would see this working somewhat like the sync content feature, but to server instead of client.

I’m trying to get my home as energy efficient as possible and being able to shut down the more power-hungry storage most of the time would be a great addition.

I suppose what you’re asking for is the same as this feature suggestion.

Somewhat similar, but in this case my Server is online but I would have multiple storage pools with some of the storage (NAS, Mapped Drive) currently offline/not always on. As people reach multi TB levels of storage with their plex, as well as different collections of media, I would think a lot of them have libraries that are not direct-attached/local storage to the plex server machine.

In my specific case, I run Plex on a Synology NAS but that NAS is running out of space. I have another NAS that is on occasionally ( a couple times a week for ~6 hours) that I use for backup replication and for less used files. It would be nice to be able to archive/move some of my existing plex library that may not be quite as ‘hot’ to that, but still have the media shown as had but on an offline storage (and ideally could then be cached locally next time that storage came online if a viewer wished.)

If you disable Plex to automatically empty its trash after every scan, you should have just that… the “archived” items could still be showing in your library while Plex highlights they’re not currently available.
