I’d like to play a small video prior to playing a video. The small video would be the same everytime (think the “turn your cell phone off” clip before you see a movie in the theaters).
already exists
Plex/Web -> Settings -> Server -> Extras -> Pre-roll
Bummer that the clients have to enable this… I’d love to force it on everyone.
It is a server side setting, you just have to access the setting through PlexWeb

No, it’s not. All Settings - Web are client settings, only valid for this specific web browser instance.

It is true. If you configure a pre-roll in the server settings (Plex/Web → Settings → Server → Extras → Pre-roll), clients can’t override it.

But they still need to enable trailers in general. And that is a client setting.
Edit Movie Library > Advanced: ‘Enable Cinema Trailers’ is enabled.
Pre-roll video is configured on server.
Roku/Plex client: Settings > General > ‘Cinema Trailers’ setting is ‘Don’t Play.’
When you play a movie on Plex/Roku, the pre-roll video plays first.
That’s new.
And I’d be furious if I would have one shoven down my throat that way.
The whole point of this whole cable cutter effort is to avoid seeing stuff I don’t want.
I can’t swear to it, but I thought that’s the way it has been since I first played with the pre-roll 3 or 4 months ago.
Early 2021 clean-up:
- implemented (pre-roll)
- duplicate (force pre-roll)
