Can we please get a create button for collections? I’d like to allocate new, empty collections. But the only way to do that is a wonky workflow. Take an unrelated video, temporarily create a new collection with that video, then remove the video from the new collection.
A create button for empty playlists would likewise be helpful.
Update:
The UX is even worse than that.
If you create a collection and remove all videos from it, then the collection can fail to appear in the Collections text field’s autocompletion menu.
May I ask what the use-case is for an empty collection? I don’t mean to be dismissive, but my imagination fails me at times.
I don’t think it needs a justification, but I will explain anyway.
Google Docs lets us create empty documents.
Explorer allows empty files.
Databases allow empty tables.
Plex libraries can be empty.
The empty state is natural. There is often a human need to set aside space for elements, even before the specific elements are identified.
Plex supports empty collections and empty playlists. There’s just an arbitrary constraint to not create them as empty.
I prefer to pipeline tasks rather than waste time. While waiting for videos to transfer, I want to go ahead and setup the collection, including the cover art.
I wasn’t asking for justification; I was genuinely curious about your use-case for this.
For what it’s worth, there is a dedicated “Feature Suggestions” section of these forums for requests such as these. It would be more appropriate for your original post to be listed there so that others may vote their support.
If you do decide to make a formal feature suggestion, it would probably be a good idea to add your use-case(s) to it to make the idea more compelling.
Offering another work around. Use the advanced filter feature and make a rule that gives you 0 results. There is then the option to save this as a collection. Repeat.
Alternatively, you could add it directly to the database if you are familiar with SQL.
