I’m experiencing this on both iOS and web.
tl;dr:
Using non-english library language and metadata.
When searching for original title I’ll get no results unless I’m searching the exact title/perfect match: Searching for “Enthusiasm” provides no hits, while “Curb Your Enthusiasm” matches the show.
Context:
I’m norwegian and I’m using non-english libraries for movies and shows. However, most norwegians are used to english titles for most content as translating titles - for the most part - is a thing of the past. But there are a lot of exeptions, especially for family/children movies (Disney etc.).
Even though all my users are norwegian as well, they do have different habits. Some of my users search for “Lion King”, while others search for the norwegian title (“Løvenes konge”).
If I use original titles/set library to english, searching for “Lion” or “King” will provide expected search results. Searching for the norwegian title will obviously not provide any results in this case.
With library and metadata set to norwegian, I can search for “Løvenes”, “Konge”, “Løvenes ko” etc., and the search function does its job as expected. You can also find the movie by searching original title, but now you’d need to have a perfect match. Searching for “Lion” or “King” provides no matches, while “Lion king” works as it should.
This has created quite a few cases of users (and myself) being unable to find content on my server.
Is it possible to make searching for original titles “smarter”?
If relevant:
Using official docker (latest version, on Unraid, also latest version (6.12.8)). Optimizing library every week (and basically all scheduled settings enabled, thumbnail creation etc etc.)
~1600 movies and ~4000 episodes. Using PMM for overlays and collections.
