I downloaded the preview app. Pretty much nothing works. Came back here to diagnose and found the Release Notes which say that you must have server version 1.41.2. This should have been in the PLEX Experience Preview announcement…or a note that you should first read X, Y, and Z before downloading the app.
It’s not mentioned in the blog or the How to access the Plex Experience Preview. Beyond that it’s listed on a number of relevant places.
From the common questions section of the forum announcement / documentation:
From the release notes:
Indeed…but it would have been nice to know before I went through all the trouble.
Plex says: “HERE download this thing and try it out!” (fails to mention that it is only for certain customers)
Me: “OK! Let’s see what’s new and cool!”
Me Later: “…”
A better way is to inform the user beforehand to allow them to make an informed decision rather than invest time and aspirations, only to be disappointed later.
Why would you run an outdated version of Plex server?
@itsamezachary I was frustrated because the app very much does not work for me. I cannot watch or download just about anything on any of our iOS devices. As it turns out, I’m on an approved version (1.41.2.9200) I simply misread either the req version or my version and then made a bad assumption on the cause.
That said, even though this isn’t my problem, it should be stated if their are specific limiting requirements in the invite. It is a small thing to include and may preempt problems for someone who hasn’t read the supplemental documentation yet.
I don’t know that there is any specific reason someone may not be running the latest public version, but they may have reasons. Sometimes specific versions require new Nvidia drivers or other massive/impossible changes that an admin might not be ready to buy into.
I am using a QNAP TS253A NAS and the only available PMS provided by Qnap is 1.30.0
I am not ready to update PMS by hand for I foresee too many complications.
Please make the iOS app backward compatible or give the option to roll back to version 8.45!
Totally agree this is horrible. I wouldn’t have updated the app had I known.
Also running an outdated version because I have an older computer. Wish I had money for a new updated cpu unfortunately I don’t.
I don’t understand. My android app automatically updated and now I can access my PMS? Crazy horrible design decisions.
.You… can’t think of a single reason, in 2025, for why someone wouldn’t want to update Plex?
