So I noticed on my Apple TV 4K that the Plex app all of a sudden is broken. Used to work just fine, but now I see this error message: “Server version 1.3 or higher required”. The issue is that I’m running Mac OS 10.7.5 on an older Macbook Pro and I’ve always been just fine. No issues for almost a year now. But, for some reason I see this error message now. I can’t install v1.3 because it requires Mac OS 10.9 or higher. Am I just out of luck and no more Plex for me on my Apple TV 4K?
Same. Though we run on a synology nas that can’t be updated because of the processor. It’s never been a problem and runs great and the family is not pleased that suddenly we cannot use Plex at all. Doesn’t seem right to have no heads up about this. Any way to side load an older version of the app or am I out of luck simply because my Apple TV was on auto update?
-very upset Plex pass user
Same here … Running Plex server on an ‘old’ Windows (32bit) machine. So upgrading Plex isn’t an option since the new version requires 64bit apparently. Forced to buy new hardware? That’s just great …
I was also shocked and extremely bummed to find my Plex app not working on my Apple TV 4K. I’ve been running an older version of Plex (0.9.16.2) with little to no issues for years on my old Core 2 Duo Mac that can’t be updated to the latest version.
As someone else said, is there any way to install an older version of the Plex app on Apple TV that is compatible, or even better, to walk back the decision to only support 1.3 and above??
I understood dropping support for the Server app when that happened, but forcing people to spend another couple hundred dollars for new hardware when the old hardware is working just fine is really not cool.
Same trouble here. What a shock. I’ve been through the forums and have made several attempts to load older versions without any luck. If anyone figures out a way to install an older version, I’d appreciate hearing from you.

What model Mac? Can it Run Mavericks?
So if your Mac is older than 10 years then your out of luck.
If it can run Mavericks there are lots of Install disc’s/ usb available online at ebay etc
This is really messed up, Plex. Now, I can’t even use your product because my server is on an old Mac. Canceling everything.
You really messed up and don’t care about your users.

So you have a older than 10 year machine and your complaining. I do not follow that logic, you had a really good run.

if you’re running on a 10 year-old machine knowing you can no longer upgrade the app, you should avoid auto-updating your environment. I’m aware this is easier said then done – especially when the damage is done. however it’s not like they didn’t announce it.
I run Plex on my QNAP Nas. Just gone to watch something on my iPad and it says the server must be running version 1.3 or higher. I can’t see any way of changing this. Not happy at all.

So you can not download from:
I am in the same boat as many here. I wish I had seen that update note before my TV auto updated the Plex app. Very disappointed. Too bad I don’t have the money to build a new media server.
The heads up about the updated server required everyone missed is here… back in March.
I don’t follow announcements - I have little enough time for watching my videos.
Anyway, the app on my AppleTV had working despite several tvOS update. This issue didn’t affect me until yesterday when I deleted/reinstalled the app on AppleTV to try resolve a different problem.
All my Plex videos are stored on an iMac from 2007 (or there about) running Lion. Does the requirement for “server 1.3 or higher” mean I can no longer use my iMac with the tvOS Plex app? I have a newer MacBook but I’d like to still use my iMac for this if it possible.
Can anyone offer a solution?
I get the same message on my fire stick. I have Plex server running on a win 10 64 bit machine Plex version 1.13.2.5154. I can not find a download for anything higher than that from Plex. I have gotten to the point that i am about to abandon Plex and to think i was about to get Plex Pass. After i hit retry it connects but the skipping and shuddering of video play back has only gotten worse over the past 3 updates.
I’m having the same issue, I can’t update past 1.13.2.5223.
I’m on MacOS High Sierra(latest updates) and have the lastest plex server and I still get my Fire Stick telling me that I need server verion 1.3 or higher and I have Plex Pass and can’t seem to find this on public or beta channels.
Please help, plex people!
After some testing i have come to the conclusion that there is something with the app for the firestick that is the issue. I think play back issues are because it does not have a pass through option. The app for Kodi that can be side loaded works perfectly because it has a pass though option for local play back. After building a tower specifically for Plex. I saved a copy of all my media on that computer and using my NAS for back up only. I no longer have a connection issue just a play back issue.
I’m in the same boat. I have Plex Server Version 1.13.2.5154 on a Windows 10 64bit machine and have been using the Plex app on my Amazon Firestick to connect. It’s been working fine for months, but has all of a sudden stopped working. Can we get a response from the dev team about this please? It’s frustrating to be suddenly prevented from using a product for no good reason.
I wish i knew how to get in touch with the Dev team. I would give them any info they needed. Kodi is easy enough to put on the fire stick but Plex does a much better job organizing everything and if they are going to have a stand alone app i would expect it to work like it did before or at least have a place to report bugs because we are the actual testers.
1.13 is higher than 1.3
1.13 is current version
1.3 came out in 2016
