Requiring new server version that doesnt exist yet?

I got this mail just a few minutes ago:

Greetings, Plex Live TV & DVR user
We’re making major changes to how guide data is curated and delivered in Plex. Beginning on June 30, 2019 Plex will require Plex Media Server version 1.16.1 to maintain EPG data and overall Live TV & DVR functionality. Users that don’t upgrade by the above date will begin losing guide data starting July 1, 2019.

Server version 1.16.1 doesn’t even exist yet though :upside_down_face:

30th of June means there are a few days left for releasing it.

Then it should say that.

So we have 24 hours to upgrade or we lose EPG data?

I agree that’s crazy… Upgrade within a few days or less, or you lose it… Very bad customer service.

PMS 1.16.1 is now available for download

Ha ha ha. Just a little behind I see.

  1. Get email
  2. Download 1.16.0
  3. Wonder where 1.16.1
  4. Check forums
  5. See others complaing
  6. Refresh page
  7. See 1.16.1 is available
  8. Download 1.16.0

It looks like the email was sent out about a half hour too early.

I just looked, it only seems to be available as a Plex Pass download.
When I turn Plex Pass downloads off I see this:
1.16.0.1226-7eb2c8f6f

Gotta wonder what else is in it since they are basically forcing people to upgrade.
They have such a stellar track record with not putting secret stuff in.

Yeah I keep refreshing to dl .1 and it’s still not there.

That’s expected. Without PlexPass you cannot use Live TV anway.

No, Plex Pass is beta, not general release.
When will general release be out?
I do not update to Plex Pass versions because they are generally buggy.

If I cannot use Live TV because Plex does not have a stable, general release version out then what?
Or, is it typical Plex?

Glad I have Emby as a backup.

So if I have Plex Lifetime, should I not be able to dl the update?

Yes, you should. It is a Plex Pass download.
How are you trying to get the version?

I have Plex lifetime and when I go to settings it says my 1.16.0 version is up to date. If I click on check for updates it still says it is up to date. Why is it not getting the new update of 1.16.1?

do you have the update channel set to beta?

Make sure your “Server update Channel” is set to Beta, then save and reload the page.

(Oh, yeah, Plex Pass and thus this update, is beta.)

I had it set up Public. If I change to Beta it picks it up. Strange that a Beta version is being required to run. Why is this not Public?

Exactly.
I only use Public versions and wait a week or so after release to make sure it is stable.
But now I lose functionality because they want to force some change on us. makes you wonder what that change actually is.

Received the email about the EPG this morning. I assume that if I’m NOT using the Plex EPG, but downloading an xmltv file via Zap2XML I don’t need to do anything?
