Managed to sort this out in a bit simpler way, in case you have a QNAP NAS: https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=358&t=166612&p=825888#p825888
If you look in the script, That’s exactly what it does at the end.
The rest of what it does is to make sure Preferences.xml is UNCLAIMED so you can reclaim it because not everybody is that comfortable messing around with the editor and paths. ( There are a lot of Linux noobies around here )

It works for a bunch of different environments.
