[RESOLVED] Couldn't check for the existence of file

Plex Team

I am upgrading from an older DS1512+ to a DS1019+. I just completed getting my media files on the new server and have started setting up Plex. My libraries aren’t updating. I then checked the Plex forums to find an answer. I’ve gone through ChuckPA’s

thread and implemented the changes to folder/user permissions. I created a test media folder with only one movie in it to help trouble shoot and keep library scanning times down to a minimum until I get this figured out.

Right now, plex user has RO access to media - music, photo, and video, and RW to the Plex folder. Plex has been stopped and restarted on the DS1019+. Plex has been unistalled and reinstalled DS1019+. The 1019+ is restarted after permission changes are made.

Below is the Plex Media Server Log error I am receiving when performing a library scan.
Server Version#: Version 1.16.5.1552
Player Version#: 6.4.8.6145-8164e1910-Plex

What else can I check that isn’t covered in the ChuckPA thread?

Cheers

I recommend not using the Synology-provided shares. Synology gives them special permissions which conflict with Plex. Also, Synology’s products (video station / audio station / photo station ) will change permissions to suit their needs without warning.

Create a regular share using a name of your liking which suits your needs (e.g. Movies, Television, etc) giving user plex permission as you create it.

You’ll find the behavior is as you expect it.

Problem solved. You are a scholar and a gentleman. I guess that problem didn’t arise on the old DS1512+ from 2012.

Cheers

Correct. Prior to PMS 1.15.4.994, permissions were handled entirely differently on Synology. Plex was a member of the administrators group. It needed this to operate correctly

Here’s the full notice I posted.
