I’m a noob. I installed the latest Plex Server 1.26.2.5797 from scratch and built my libraries brand new. I’ve set up 2 libraries so far: Home Videos, and Movies. I’m having a problem where Plex won’t scan one library (Home Videos), but is scanning the other one just fine (Movies).
I set the permissions as described in the popup: (Synology → Control panel → Shared Folder → Edit → Permissions → System Internal user (in the drop down) → Plex set to read/write)
Here’s the error I’m getting in my log file:
May 31, 2022 10:48:09.298 [0x7f91cc6c8b38] ERROR - Couldn’t check for the existence of file “/volume1/photo/Phone Backup Pics and Vids/.grab”: boost::filesystem::status: Permission denied: “/volume1/photo/Phone Backup Pics and Vids/.grab”
Plex is able to scan my Volume2/… directory just fine. I set permissions here the same way.
I’ve uploaded my logs. Any help would be appreciated.
I’m not very technical, so a dumbed-down explanation/troubleshooting guide would be very helpful.
Apologies for the confusion. I’m saying that the checkbox for “Apply to this folder, sub-folder and files” checkbox” is not available/does not show up in the /Volume1/photos Properties > Permissions tab, however this checkbox is available on the /Volume2/ Properties > Permissions tab. I checked it and saved, although this did not fix my problem.
Is that the Synology-provided “photo” shared folder
–OR–
Do you have Photo Station installed ?
Either of those conflict (Synology does weird things / doesn’t let go of permissions)
If the above is true, Create a new folder “Photos” and move your photos there.
As you create it, grant PlexMediaServer permission
Then move all the files over and add the folder to Plex.
Both of the above are true. I’m going to try creating a new “Photos” folder and move everything over, and grant permissions as you advised. I’ll report back with my findings. Thanks so much!
Hey @ChuckPa thank you for your help! I created a new folder, moved all of my stuff there, and granted permissions as advised. Plex is now scanning that new folder successfully.
