Restarting DVR recording

Not all the time, but occasionally, something will happen with a scheduled recording and the recording will end early. My question is, how do I manually restart the recording? It seems if I have a scheduled recording, Plex won’t allow me to restart a recording (even though the live show is still on). What is the work around when I know the show is on, but Plex won’t let me record? As a sideline, we were trying to record last night “America’s Got Talent.” The recording stopped after 23 minutes and the 23 minute file showed up in my Plex library. But when I looked at the File Information it showed that the video was 2:02 hours long. That was the correct length for what was supposed to record but what we actually got was only 23 minutes. This is typical of what happens when this problem happens. I appreciate the help.

I think it won’t allow you to restart the recording because it is detecting it as already recorded. What you could try if this happens again is:

  • Move the file out of the library into another folder
  • Empty trash on the library, so the Plex removes it
  • Start the recording again

That leaves the issue of what to do with the first file. If you put the first file back, renaming it so it ends with .part1, and rename the second file with .part2 then Plex should combine the two together when you play the episode.

Thank you. What you suggest makes sense. This doesn’t happen all the time, but the next time it does, I will give you solution a try. I appreciate the help.
