Restore Duplicates Badge removed in Plex Web 4.53.0

I understand the frustration, but this is sadly par for the course for Plex and decision making. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to make custom patches in some way shape or form, just that this one is relevant to anyone.

Please bring this back, I just updated after a month of skipping updates because plex server wouldn’t stay running, now I gamble and finally update and this is gone? Why does plex keep going in the wrong direction? Really wish they would focus on the PMS and not these games and other stuff we dont use plex for.

And dya know what is even more annoying, bordering on insulting ???

Here is the profile page for @chrishoage as of 2 minutes ago…

In other words, he is online and posting, and pretty much ignoring this topic!

That’s actually just downright rude !!

Also adding my weight to this. Just went to Plex web to start optimising content to free up some disk space… and no versions badge. This was SO useful in managing a library and managing a batch conversion of content from MKV to MP4!

Please bring it back!!

Also adding my 2 cents and my vote. If it hadn’t paid for a lifetime subscription way back when, I would have cancelled my subscription for a while now.
The fact that they just keep removing functionality without even doing us the curtesy of adding something like a “legacy options” menu where we could enable it if we wanted to is just insulting.
For me the big ones were the removal of the custom landing page layout (Which mostly affects my friends that use the server), and now this.

[edit] It’s sad that you have to make feature suggestions for things that used to be there [/edit]
[edit2] For people that want to downgrade in the meantime, here’s the link to Windows Client and the link to Plex Media Server released on 2021-02-26 [/edit2]

Yeah, I already said my piece in another topic. As many of you said this feature was incredibly useful and important. I’ll never know why they don’t just make this things OPTIONAL.

Don’t remove stuff, give me the option to… is that so hard?

Have my vote too.

I mean downgrading is letting them win, which is why I made patches which should be linked above, unless Plex removed those comments.

It’s borderline hilarious that they removed a duplicate indicator from what is the only admin-tool their customers have.

They very clearly don’t care about votes so don’t kid yourself into thinking this will get fixed the more votes it gets.

Eventually a Plex employee will have to manually edit their very small Plex library and have to click through a bunch of episodes to find the duplicate/trashed item. That’s the only time this ever has a chance of getting fixed.

Plex Web is the only editor your customers have for managing their libraries. A duplicate badge IS NOT visual noise.

If you want Plex Web to just be a player then give us a proper editor. Otherwise recognize and respect that this is the defacto library editor and treat it as such.

Firstly, thanks for doing the research and re-adding the code and I don’t mean any offence but I personally always like to check code before I add it, and I just haven’t had the time.
The reason I linked to the installers is for people that aren’t too familiar with code or just want a quick fix (since the downloads are first party).

How about having it so the feature could be toggled on and off by the user.? No reason to remove it forever when so many like the feature.

Set it to off by default but if a user really wanted it they can toggle it on. That way no has to see any unnecessary “NOISE”.

Just had confirmation on another topic that @Plex plan to rectify this. No ETA, but that’s fine from my point of view :+1:

VERY glad to see this is supposed to come back as I very much hated this change. When you have a huge library (4000+ 1080p films, 800+ 4K) seeing the number to ensure things are merged correctly is rather important.

Glad to hear it’s getting reverted. Just replying to add weight to it

Yes, please put this back.

Any update on it coming back? I haven’t updated since the first version they removed the duplicate badges.

Can anyone confirm whether it has come back or not? I’m not going to update until it does, so if they don’t mention it in the release notes I won’t know.

It has not.

In the meantime, I’m using Plex Media Player in desktop, not TV layout. It was last updated May 19, 2020. It still shows the duplicates badges.

This lets me run a current version of Plex Media Server and still see the duplicates badges when managing my libraries. I still manage via Plex Web, but I use PMP to see duplicates.

Thanks for the info. If anyone gets any further updates from one of Plex employees on the forum about when/if we should expect a selectable option to show duplicates returning please share.

What a damn good workaround! Thanks @FordGuy61
