Restoring metadata after local files were deleted and restored

Server Version#: 4.156.0

As the title said I recently just had to redownload my entire music library (about 850gbs) after some frustrating shenanigans with a cloud service also deleting the files locally as well as the cloud. Thankfully I had a very recently updated backup of the library, I uploaded this one just two days before the deletion. Since I never uninstalled Plex I assumed the metadata in my plex folder never changed and after restoring the files everything would be back to normal

But when I restored the music folder plex updated it’s library and rescanned everything. it did metadata, loudness scanning, and sonic analysis, everything. But now multiple albums and artists are just blank. For example multiple albums have no title and only artists. Do I need to just suck it up and manually redo the metadata? Should I try to refresh the metadata on the albums with problems? I also do have a very recent back up of the plex media server folder and the reg file.

I know that my system probably did a scan of the library while the files were gone and automatically emptied the trash but like I said I do have a backup of the plex media server folder and the reg file so could I use them?

I believe that these days Plex uses MusicBrainz for matching. I think at one time, they used CDDB. I have a few albums that at one were matched but now I find the unmatched because they don’t show up in MusicBrainz.

If you have been adding back a ton of albums, Plex might still be matching them. Have you tried a “Refresh Metadata” on any of the problem albums?

Try this first.

Which scanner and agent are selected on the properties of the music library?
