Restrict shared libraries to 1 user per account

Hi,

would it be possible to either restrict to 1 or give a user selectable limit to how many devices can use a shared library? Reason for this being I share my library with around 10 people and reckon with only 2-3 of them using it at any given time so my upload is able to handle to usage. Recently I noticed 1 particular user was watching 3 different movies according to now playing on plex web. When I asked him it turned out he'd given his login to his son who in turn had passed it on to his best mate. I got him to change his password and to not give out his login but am now worried that it could potentially happen again, would it be possible to have a setting that restricts each account to only accessing my server the 1 time or allow me to set the maximum?

Thanks,

Even better, allow myPlex to use an ACL, where one could put in the following:

Maximum concurrent usage

Restrict to type of client device

Restrict to IP address (Less usable in most env)

Restrict time of usage

Guys and Girls...liking my post is nice indeed, but in order to get this done, you'll have to not like my post, but the top post.

That's the way Dev get's attracted like flies

Only the top post counts, and when so, they will read the whole thread, if not infested with +1 posts, but instead with valid arguments for or against, as well as additions to the OP's suggestion

Yeah, Multi-User & Parental Controls (ACL) all integrated into myPlex is going to eventually happen..

Problem i have with being too reliant on myPlex is that if plex ever stopps working, we're all SOL

Known fact, or guessing here?

Do like me then, kill yourself

Id love options like these aswell. The IP masking is a great idea if it would support wildcards.

I think that this is a big requirement, I too have had family give out their login password. I would love to control exactly who I want to connect with myplex at the client device level. I did start a thread that suggested control through mac addresses, but I was informed that this wouldn't really work that well and was easy to fool.

So bring on the other ideas!

Hah. Just caught a friend sharing his login aswell. Thx to “Now Playing”.

You mean ex-friend I guess

Well its not that big of a deal. But I deleted him from the server. I saw the client name and it turns out I also know the guy he shared it with. Who knows if he shared it with more though…

Looks like its not just me then who has such trustworthy friends and family lol!

Hopefully this thread will attract some interest and the devs will consider implementing it. Thanks for all the comments guys!

I guess it is a reflection on just how good plex is that people want to 'share the love'. you can't fight human nature, but you can control it! (evil laughter while typing that).

I don't really fault my friends for sharing their account info with another one of their family members, or their friends. Like it has already been said, it's human nature to spread the love. I'd just like more and better control over the accounts that I've authorized to share my server. That's all. ;)

I'm 100% opposite here.

For me to share is a matter of trust, and if they break that trust, I'll downgrade their workstations to dos 3.1 next time I get my hands om them

Well it may be human nature, but your server has limited resources and so does your bandwidth,  so there really should be options to prevent such behaviour.

Limiting users to one active session at a time surely will make people think twice before handing out their login information, but I think there should be even more optional limitations.  Optional IP-masking would be fantastic.

They are been unPlexy...They must DIE...DIE...DIE...

Limiting users to one active session is one way of controlling use of myplex, but I have family that have 3 Ipads, and 2 Rokus in the household so this would be overly harsh on them. I would however like to control bandwidth to each connected device and know exactly what devices are connected and some sort of IP identification. Now Playing is a step in this direction. I would also like to identify if a persons login has been 'borrowed' so I can block that device, without having to play around with a new myplex share.

Having all those devices shouldn't warrant the need for logins to be shared. My partner for instance has an iPad, iPhone and a roku on which she uses plex. She never uses multiple devices at the same time however. Why would she? Each user can set their myplex account on as many devices as they want but would never use two simultaneously. There are 4 of us in my family and we all have a myplex account. Alone due to on deck etc it makes sense to each have our own myplex account.

I would make each of them get a personal account rather than sharing one, and limit each of those to one.  Having said that, I think the server should be able to configure the limitation for each user, so that you as the server op should be able to configure this as you please.  There may be users you would like to grant more than one concurrent session.

Limiting certain IP or (better yet) MAC addresses to DLNA access (via simple Grant\Deny) would be outstanding.  Love this idea. (well, actually it was Dane22's addition to the idea that made me fall in love with this thread)
