Server Version#:1.19.5.3112
Player Version#:1.16.0.1364-da192ff7
Just something I noticed, not sure if it is me not knowing how to set it up or if it is a feature of the “On Deck” category on the Plex Player, but I recently started rewatching a series that has been previously marked as “watched”. I realised that “On Deck” automatically displays the next “unwatched” episode, rather then the next episode, and in the case of rewatching an entire watched series, it does not display any episode at all, meaning having to search the library, and search for the right episode each time I go to the player.
I realise I can start the next episode and stop it so it will show in “Continue watching”, but I was wondering if there is something in the player / server setup that allows you to automatically have the next episode of a series display “On Deck” regardless if it has been watched or not, or maybe it is a feature that could be added in, unless I am the only person in the entire Plex community that rewatches watched TV series in order.
Thanks for the quick response. The work around would be to just mark the entire series / season as unwatched, I was wondering if there was some way On Deck will automatically display the next episode regardless of if it has been watched or not.
It is may not be the case I want to rewatch the entire series again, and also to mark everything unwatched that I want to rewatch just seems a bit messy. Just wondering if there was something with the On Deck that I can change to display this, or maybe it is a feature that could be that could be added to avoid having to go marking things unwatched / watched.
It is not a major issue, and certainly there are work arounds, but just wondering.
Thanks for the help guys.
I will just use the work arounds for now. Maybe it is something Plex can look at, as I am sure I am not the only one that rewatches “watched” TV Series and could find this useful.
Really though the whole point of the On Deck is to show next unwatched. If you let it show next episode whatever the status is then it would defeat the purpose. And if you want to see only a season or some episode, you can just mark those as unwatched or if you want to rewatch already watched episode only you can make a dynamic playlist with those (I do that with my South Park episodes for instance).
But wouldn’t it make sense for on deck to display the next episode of what you are watching, whether it is watched or unwatched. At least for the period you want things to stay “On Deck” (for me I set at 1 week)
So if i decide to have a quick watch of GOT, start watching S02e01, even though I have watched the entire series, when I finish that episode it would help to display GOT S02e02 “On Deck”. If I don’t watch it, then it disappears in a week anyway. Whereas now, I would either have to start GOT S02e02 then stop so it displays on “continue watching” or mark episodes as unwatched. But how many episodes do I now have to mark unwatched? Maybe I watch a couple more then get distracted by something else, and then have to remark them as “watched” again.
It is no big deal really, I survived this long without it, but just thought maybe it is a tweak to “On Deck” if it could be done.
For me it displays for 52 Weeks.
If I want to watch a ‘One-Off’ - I watch it.
If I want to watch the Show again - I mark it Unplayed.
As Designed.
BTW:
Anyone only Considering On Deck for One Week - doesn’t know how On Deck should work - so I don’t want YOU dictating to ME what you want to happen in Your World.
Your World and The Rest Of The World - are very, very different. In Your World there is YOU. The Rest Of The World contains the rest of us and we know how to use On Deck the way it is designed - and while there are many changes to consider - this isn’t one of them.
I agree that it is somewhat annoying to have to manually ‘unwatch’ a series/season to get it to appear ‘on deck’.
what might be useful, at least perhaps to some, would be an option on the post play screen asking the user if they want to mark the remaining season/episodes as unwatched, if they finish an episode that is already marked as watched.
example
show LOST is marked as completely watched
at some point a user searches for, or navigates directly to the show LOST and starts (any) episode.
that episode finishes, on the post-play screen there is something that the user can trigger to ‘mark remaining season’, or ‘mark all remaining episodes’ to be re-watched (ie marked un-watched), so they can then show up on ‘on deck’.
the user can of course ignore the option, and then no watch status will be changed
the option should not interrupt or interfere with auto-play
the option should not be required to interact with at all
the option should not be relevant to a playlist or shuffled queue of episodes/shows
That sounds complicated (from an end-user perspective).
The nice but probably much more complicated approach (from a developers point of view) would be to allow:
a menu item in the ... context menu for a watched episode/season/show to Rewatch it… this will put that episode, 1st episode of the season/show “on deck”
after watching an already watched episode, add the next episode “on deck” but flag the poster with a label (e.g. Rewatch me?) – unless the user clicks that “on deck”-entry, it’ll go away after 3 days or 1 week
Unlikely to happen but who knows
I suppose the balance between value-add for the user vs. effort for Plex is not in our favor (this probably requires a complete rework of the mechanism how hubs work today).
Woah, I’m not saying I want Plex to change on Deck to 1 week … I only used it as an example of how I set it up… of course, everyone has different requirements for how they want their Plex to function. At no point did I say Plex need to change to fit my needs.
My initial inquiry and subsequent suggestion was for functionality to be added to “On Deck” beacuse I thought others might experience the same issue. If no one has a need to for it, ignore it, no big deal. I certainly wasn’t dictating to YOU or anyone else how plex should function, or how YOU should use it. If I came across like I was dictating, I apologise.
Hmm, I tried to be uncomplicated, it is basically the suggestion of adding 1 or 2 ‘mark the rest of (season | all) episodes unplayed’ buttons to the post play screen, under the autoplay section (but only show those buttons, if the upcoming episodes are already marked as played).
borrowing someone else’s post play screenshot to add mockup buttons in the center
