i would really appreciate a feature like this to be added, hopefully, this will suit all, or, maybe we can we have an option for those who want it
if we are goin down the option route, I would also love to be able to adjust the formula to my viewing habbits, potentially to automatically recognise or add my favourite shows
i am also hoping that adding a feature like this, would not be to much of a drain on the server, please correct me if i am wrong
IMO ‘On Deck’ needs a total revamp. When I first started using Plex I didn’t have a problem with it, but it became really annoying, really quickly. Two types of issues as I see them - one with unwatched items, one with watched items.
Unwatched: I got a the Looney Tunes Golden Collection. I didn’t plan to watch them in any particular order but I still want to know which of the 300 + are watched and which are not watched. On Deck selects the one directly after the last one I played (which isn’t the next one on the DVD - but that’s another issue), but that is rarely the next one I’m going to watch (e.g. chronological order).
Watched: I love The Wire and The Sopranos. I’ve watched both of those shows from beginning to end multiple times. Problem, ‘On Deck’ only shows up for items that are unwatched. If I decide to start The Wire again, I need to set the entire series/season to unwatched if I want it to show up on my ‘On Deck’
What is really needed (and may save the need for a total revamp) is an on/off option triggered at the Show level, regardless of Watched status. That way Looney Tunes can get turned off, but I can turn on The Wire when I decide that I need more Jimmy & Bunk in my life. And it gets turned off again when a series is complete.
I also would like to see the ‘On Deck’ feature tracking progress of a completed series rewatch.
My humble suggestion would be adding a ‘Watch it Again’ status (below the ‘Mark as Played/Unplayed’ option) that would be available only when all episodes have been marked as played. This would then be a secondary status that then could be used for tracking progress without changing the existing ‘Watched’ status. It could also be used multiple times- so if I stop at episode 8 but come back 3 months later, I could reset the ‘Watch it Again’ flag.
You could also add ‘Watch it Again’ functionality, like suggesting series on the homescreen- in a sensible fashion. Initiating a rewatch there would be the same as manually selecting the ‘Watch it again’ flag. You could also show other types of media- like movies- in that section.
For series with mixed completion, the only solution I see there would be a toggle in Settings:
‘Next Episode On Deck: Latest / Earliest’ (would have to use the ‘watched’ or ‘rewatch’ flag as appropriate)
