Server Version#: 1.22.0.4163 Windows
Player Version#: roku app 6.7 build 18
so I have a roku ultra 4670 for a while now, the plex app defaults to 4k hdr version of my movie where i have 2 versions 4k and 1080p for said movie. so when i select movie XYZ i can see plex roku app is giong to play the 4k version.
I just bought a 4800 ultra roku yesterday, when i go into the plex app it’s defaulting to the 1080p version of my movie !!!
i can’t figure out why, the only noticeable difference between the 4670 and 4800 is the 4800 roku settings are NOT detecting automatically my tv (Vizio 65in model M65-D0) as 4K HDR, using the same high end hdmi cable and port as the 4670 (i’m just swapping them out right) … i have to force it to 4k HDR, now once i do i can play any 4K HDR content fine on Plex app or any other app… but i’m wondering if Plex Roku app is checking some config file in roku and seeing that “hey the roku did not detect the tv as 4k hdr and the user forced it” so the plex app is THEN defaulting to wanting to play 1080p files first ??
I have a ticket open with roku as well just opened it today . I’m stumped on this one while i have to go and select the move to play as 4k version on 4800 i should not have to do that .
I hope plex dev is reading this, from a user standpoint i fear Roku is going to blame Plex app, but then logically speaking the fact the 4800 won’t detect my tv properly is that playing into this ? if so then roku is at fault here. this is frustrating…
We do verify the connected device (TV) supports HDR, and if not, we’ll attempt to choose a non HDR version. In your case, this is sub optimal because you do have an HDR TV.
i have to force it to 4k HDR, now once i do i can play any 4K HDR content fine on Plex app or any other app…
Are you referring to changing the “Display Type” in the Roku settings to “4k HDR TV”? That makes sense because Roku is not detecting your TV as 4k HDR, so you’ll need to set that until Roku fixes the detection issue.
@Theridges and @ljunkie , so i’ve always had Roku’s until my new tv i got today which is a 85in samsung qled. so i started using samsung built in apps. I noticed the same thing happening with the Plex samsung app :(, so i set it to original playback setting for local, still it defaults to 1080p for movies where i have 2 versions 4k and 1080p. i then set remote to original thinkign well maybe the plex samsung app needs it set for both, still no different. i even set both local and remote to 4k 20mbs or whatver and still any movie i use in the plex samsung app it just always defaults to 1080p so i’m ONLY using my roku now for plex lmao!! i was able to DL all my other major apps and get them working as samsung apps. but i’m not going to use the plex samsung app if it can’t default to play a 4k version of a movie where i have both 1080p and 4k .
Unfortunately for your issue I have no answer,
I have my 4k and 1080p libraries serperate so I don’t have issues for remote connection and also for organization…
I assume one day the devs will work this out just dont know when…
