Hi, I’m visiting my family for the holidays and using their Roku Ultra (4802X) to remotely connect to my Plex Media Server running in my home. However, it appears that their Roku Ultra will only remotely connect to my Plex Media Server through Relay, which limits the streaming bandwidth. If I disable the “Enable Relay” setting on my Plex Media Server running in my home, then their Roku Ultra fails to connect to my Plex Media Server at all, saying the server is unavailable.
When I try to remotely connect to my Plex Media Server using Plex for Windows or Plex for iOS (my iPhone), they can connect just fine without going through Relay. This is true regardless of whether I have the “Enable Relay” setting enabled or disabled on my Plex Media Server. Both the Plex for Windows and Plex for iOS apps are using the same Wi-Fi Internet connection as the Roku Ultra, so I don’t think there’s an issue with my family’s network configuration or the network configuration of my Plex Media Server that could be causing this.
The Roku Ultra connection test reports its download speed as 200 Mbps, which should be plenty for streaming. And my Plex Media Server’s Internet connection supports up to 100 Mbps upload, which should also be plenty for streaming.
Is there a limitation in Plex for Roku that only allows it to connect to remote Plex Media Servers using Relay?
