I watch only 720p video. That is, my television is 720p and so is my preferred video quality when I use Plex on the web.
I run Plex media server on Ubuntu. (Passmark in the 5,000+ range.)
I upgraded Plex media server a day or two ago.
My laptop is a few feet from my Roku.
When I run Plex on my laptop via the web:
720p videos play fine.
1080p videos play fine. (Plex says the video is being transcoded to 720p.)
When I run Plex on my Roku Express:
720p videos play fine.
1080p videos buffer every minute or two. (Plex says the video is being transcoded to 720p.)
I’ve fiddled with all sorts of settings on Roku, Plex on Roku, Plex on web, and Ubuntu.
It seems to me that the problem has to be on the Plex on Roku.
So, I think it’s just a bug. (I’m a software engineer, for what that’s worth.) But if there’s a configuration change that would fix the problem, I’d love to know about it.
What do you suggest?
