Roku Premier Very Slow

:mega: Roku Update Alert!

 everyone,

Exciting news on the Roku front! I received word from Roku that the new version 12.5.0 b4167 has received the green light and will be rolled out tomorrow for all. One of our sharp-eyed community members, @Malokhan, has already spotted signs of its release. Looks like it might be out there a tad earlier than expected! :tada:

For those who decide to jump on this update, please let us know how it goes. Your feedback is incredibly valuable. We’re happy to see that Roku was able to roll out this fix sooner than anticipated.

Happy streaming! :tv:

I forced an update last night to the new release and it fixed the problem for me as well. Thank you, Plex team, for getting on this so quickly!

Just updated to the new build. Sweet!! All is good! And it even runs good using my old Win7 server.

And yes Plex, I will be retiring that server in a few days, and replacing it with a Win10 machine. Thank you, ljunkie! As always, Plex is the greatest!

Ok i thought i was going crazy too, i may have found another work around if you don’t use plex companion, go to settings and turn off remote control… after that setting was toggled off my UI returned to a more normal response. No clue what is going on it felt like they switched from an interrupt based approach to taking commands from the remote control to a polling based method that was sluggish as crap for me.

I got the 12.5.0 b4167 last night on my Roku 3 and it is working perfectly.
Thanks for the assistance!

Got the update 9/26 and fixed the problem.

(FWIW - I think it also fixed an issue I was having with HDHomerun.)

Quick update: I just got back from a trip and saw that my problem Roku Ultra had updated to Build 4167 and that seems to have fixed my Plex issues.

Issue since update. Only this client (other models in house no issue) having an issue during playback with any transcode.

Sep 28, 2023 13:32:36.125 [12784] ERROR - [Req#5b31/Transcode] Failed to delete session directory (boost::filesystem::remove_all: The request is not supported [system:50]:

Now at first glance this appears to be a “transcode directory” issue… but I can confirm permissions are correct and no other client in the house experiences these errors.

Using wired connection. Problem happened immediate after update and is almost every play with a transcode of any type. Audio or video.

EDIT** Upon further inspection there was a new update which I pulled today. From Ver 12.5.0.4167 to sub-ver 4169

I just watched a show with no error. Hopefully it’s fixed.

Plex live TV 720p channels work, but 1080i channels fail after about 2 minutes on a Roku Streambar and a Roku Ultra that are both on Roku OS 12.5, version 4169.

No channels fail on a different Streambar and a Roku 3 that are still on Roku OS 12.

Plex settings for video on all my Roku devices:

Local Quality: Original

Direct Play: Auto

Allow Direct Stream checked

Allow MPEG2 checked

(Ethernet connected)

While streaming, the Plex server shows for both Streambars (one on OS 12.5, the other on OS 12):

Local – 10 Gbps

Video: 1080i (MPEG2VIDEO), Direct Stream.

Audio: English (AC3 5.1), Direct Stream

I recreated the problem on the OS 12.5 Streambar. Plex server log said “Client stopped playback”, indicating the Roku Streambar.

Still fails on Build 4172.

Model: 32S327
Software version: 12.5.0, build 4176-48

For months now, we’ve been having these horrible lag issues where Plex gradually (but not that gradually) becomes unresponsive. It’s “fixed” by clearing the cache, but that has to be done like once a day.

I’m sure it’s a Roku issue in part, but I feel like Plex has repeatedly had problems with memory leaks/utilization that other apps don’t. Would be really great if more attention could be focused on making sure the app has basic functionality across platforms rather than all this social media wannabe ■■■■ that nobody asked for other than venture capitalists.
