Roku plex issues

I logged into the latest version of Plex on my Roku and immediately ran into major issues with navigation. When trying to browse my library, I couldn’t scroll down at all. The search function wouldn’t let me type anything, and even the settings menu wouldn’t allow me to scroll through the options. Also when I finally get to watch something the buttons on the remote stop working. This release is full of bugs and makes Plex nearly unusable.

I am experiencing similar problems

Search cannot be used at all

And for the menus I am only able to scroll through the series/movies but cannot go to the 2nd top bar to filter shows/movies nor to the left bar (collections/etc)

It worked initially but then it stopped working

Furthermore I cannot play old episodes either - I navigate to some old series click on the play button and nothing happens

Essentially the only way I have to watch shows that are not on continue watching or recently added is to airplay them from my phone to the tv

EDIT: I cannot even exit the app, when I try to the pop up are you sure you want to exit shows but I cannot get the menu to go down to “Yes", exit” and remains stuck on “Switch User”

Why can’t I have more than 2 libraries selected at once? If I “heart” more than 2, it only uses the last 2 and then only one of them actually works. Nothing but that one library shows on home. Is this the design or is this sometime I need to take the the support team?

Looks like time to revert back to the old app and scrape the new one. Too many bugs to be even usable .

Though not in our control - only with the Plex team but at the moment it is utterly unusable

Can’t stand the new UI. It was pushed to my device today, and I wasn’t given a choice of whether or not to update it. I hate it. Whoever is your UX person should be ashamed. Roll the release back!

Yes, this new UI is slow, ugly and requires more button presses to get to the same places as before. On top of that we are forced to have Live TV and On Demand on the screen all the time. I don’t care about any content buy my own and Plex just keeps making it harder for me to use it for what it was originally designed to do, let me stream MY content.

I believe that this comes down to economics… PLEX doesn’t get any revenue from us using our own content. While they did get my money for a lifetime PLEX Pass, they’re not making any money off me going forward so I’m sure they’re putting their revenue generating functionality front and center.

I bought a lifetime plex pass over 10 years ago. I’m invested in this app

I agree 100% - I’m completely invested as everything is set-up for PLEX and I use it on all of my devices… Simply put, PLEX was the solution to my cord-cutting efforts (add in some streaming services, sure)…

I think that they’re looking for ways to continue bringing in revenue. I’d guess many of us have the original lifetime PLEX Pass which limits the incoming revenue.

Agreed. It’s so much worse. I disabled discovery, live etc (which I already had disabled before). Getting between menus takes more clicks. It’s frozen several times (yes I’ve rebooted the Roku, reinstalled the app, etc etc etc). I’d love an option to revert to how it was, which actually worked. It’s like using the TV in a motel room. I noticed they call it an “experience”, but not a “good experience”.

It’s a Plex money grab.

Having the same issues. Finally able to get to settings but it won’t let me scroll through settings. This doesn’t even feel like a beta version. WTF?

It’s really strange but I was having similar issues. After struggling with it for a while I power cycled the TV and many of the functionality issues have resolved themselves.

To be fair - I’ve also seen another post or two where users power cycled their TV and it didn’t have an effect.

I don’t know the specs in these TV’s but I do wonder if some have better CPUs, more RAM, or something else that makes them work better or worse with these updates…?

Can’t fastforward or otherwise adjust where the show is on anything in my libraries. How was this released to the masses?

This update has made my Plex setup useless. This is the buggiest piece of trash update. Half the time the GUI becomes completely unresponsive. I can’t even pause, ff, rew, anything I’m watching. My options are hit the home button to go back to the Roku menu, or I just have to pretend I’m in the theatre, unable to control it.

Agreed this is horrible. Who thought this was an upgrade?

This new UI is so frustrating and seemingly intentionally harder for users to easily access their own hosted media.

I had to go out of my way to turn off live tv and movies & shows just to avoid having that content slammed in my face just turning on the roku app.

I can favorite a couple of my libraries but now if I want to browse the library I have to go multiple menus deep and specifically out of the home screen and into each individual library – a process that is so much more annoying and time consuming.

God bless my elderly parents who are going to have a huge, HUGE struggle remembering that you have to >move from home to “libraries” > select the RELEVANT library > find the BROWSE button on the side panel (a side panel that only exists when you’re in a library, so that’s fun for someone not technologically inclined) > and THEN finally start looking for your movie

I’m sorry, but I’m almost certain there was no user testing on this change. It was a clear cashgrab to try and promote their livestreams and freemium media.

“If every user is forced to autoplay a stream and be advertised our free stuff, we’ll start turning a quick buck!” is the proud new MO, from what it seems. Have fun menu surfing to access any of the actual stuff you’re even using Plex for.

Rebooting my Roku seemed to fix the problems

Rebooting my Roku made it work up until I made my first selection. After that it reverts back to the same unusable mess
