Roku Premier Very Slow

Model: TCL R655
OS: 12.5 Build 4165
App version 7.8 Build 4

Also have general performance issues as well as a weird issue where srt subtitles appear on the middle of the screen instead of the bottom like they were before.

The current beta build is 4167. Roku has stated that this may change before they roll it out. We are keeping a close eye on this and will update this thread when we have word that the new version is available for everyone. Initially, I heard 1 to 2 weeks, but it sounds like it could be more like a week. :crossed_fingers:

I’m seeing the same as you with the Apple app

Model - 65Q825
Software - 12.5.0 build 4162-88

How can I download the latest Roku plex build once it becomes available? The beta build availability does not appear on my Roku devices.

I don’t know about beta builds (I believe you have to have applied for and been admitted to Roku’s beta program for that), but the following solution worked immediately for me, so I’m posting it here as a potential solution for others in the interim. Skip down to the POTENTIAL SOLUTION below if you don’t need/want the background info.

In my case, the Roku delay issue was first noticed when I updated to the latest Plex server version yesterday; Version 1.32.6.7521. I’m lifetime Plex Pass and have the Update channel set to “Beta,” so your version may be different and/or this may not apply to you.

Roku is a 4660 Ultra, circa 2018. Software version was 4165, and had been for awhile. Roku software update checks showed this as the latest available.

Last night, I noticed another Roku (same model, purchased at the same time) was not having any issues. Roku software version was/is 4184 on that one. Note that I haven’t done anything to either Roku beyond the standard check for new software available on the Roku menu, so I have no idea why this one has a different version (phased rollout maybe?)

POTENTIAL SOLUTION: Roku has a “secret menu” that’s easy enough to find details on with a quick internet search. I haven’t used it in years, but it used be a way to temporarily revert to a previous Roku s/w version during rollout periods, before they finalized the new version.

Roku “secret screen”: press Home 5 times, FF 3 times, Rewind twice. Choose “Update software” from the screen that appears. May offer alternate version as an update.

I just tried it on the “broken v4165” Roku and it still works. With it, I was able to update it to the 4184 version that’s on my other Roku and all of the Plex delay issues are gone now. Roku ‘About’ screen now shows s/w version as: 12.0.0 build 4184-46

Damn dude, this worked. Thanks!

It downgraded me from
12.5.0 - build 4165-C2
to
12.0.0 build 4184-C2
…and all the interface lag is gone.

This was on a Roku Ultra (4800RW)

Great. Glad to hear it.

Something more useful than the official solution posted here, “It’s Roku’s fault. Wait a week or two with your Roku-Plex so slow you can’t use it. Solved.” was needed, imo.

Note that Roku automatic software updates will still continue as normal (hopefully/likely on the other side of whatever this issue is). This doesn’t “break” anything and you don’t need to do anything else.

Interesting secret menu, but it didn’t work on my Roku Premiere. It installed the same version. All the same problems exist in Plex.

That worked on both the Rokus we’re using in our house as well. Thanks barr88!

The " POTENTIAL SOLUTION" didn’t work for me. :frowning:

But there was an update to the plex client for me. Went from 7.7 build 2 to 7.8 build 4.

It seems to be slightly better, but still not working near as good as it used to.

Hopefully they push the update early next week.

Here’s a weird thing that provided temporary relief before I saw the recent workaround with the secret menu:

I dealt with the sluggish UI and launched a 1 hour TV show. By the time the show had ended, the Plex app was responding perfectly.

So if the secret menu update doesn’t work, just stream anything for an hour. After that, you’re probably good as long as you don’t exit the Plex app!

Worked for me! Excellent tip. Saving this one for my “toolbox”

The secret menu fix is probably model specific. You lucky dogs! lol!

From what I read, it seems the secret menu will work for standalone Rokus. RokuTVs don’t seem to allow rollbacks. Mine doesn’t at least

Having the same sluggishnes. Also when playing my own featurettes that are saved on my server, I’m unable to fast forward and it’s not remembering where I last left off.

I have the same problem. The Plex channel on Roku started lagging. It takes a long time to load and then it’s painfully slow navigating around. The other channel apps on Roku works fine. I tried to access my Plex server via browser and Fire Cube TV and it works fine. I gather something happened to the Roku channel app that is causing this problem.

Plex channel version is 7.8 build 4.
Roku Ultra model 4800x: Software 12.5.0, build 4165-C2.

I went back to my old Win7 and ReadyNAS until the Roku fix comes. It works okay for the smart tv, however the server console is all red! It looks like defcon 1! lol

Got the update went from
Software Version: 12.5.0 * build 4162-46
to 12.5.0 * build 4167-46

Issue has been resolved for me.
