Where to start - I’ll leave my strong personal preference of the legacy interface to myself, but that IS my very strong preference. This new interface is NOT for me.
I have the newest Roku Ultra model.
Issues:
Cannot navigate with the Roku remote after you start playing a media file. You cannot pause, rewind, fast forward, click anything other than “back” or home to get something to happen. You hear the Roku remote tone that you have pressed something, but nothing happens.
Cannot navigate the menu at all either, same issue as above. I had to exit to the main menu and tell the Roku to ‘restart the app’ and then the remote started working again, for a little bit.
I’m really hoping 2 things happen here.
The technical issues are addressed and fixed very soon.
There is an option to go back to the ‘legacy interface’ in settings.
I’m hoping this can be resolved very soon, I haven’t seen a single post online so far that is positive for this update. Can we please get some attention and fixes here? Within an hour I’m already searching for alternatives to move my entire library and system over to. Please address ASAP. Thank you in advance, you’ve always produced such an amazing system and product. What happened?
Fix it now! To the team at Plex – did you even test this new app? It doesn’t matter how you answer, because either way, you allowed a nonfunctional app to be released into a production environment. Back when I worked in the information technology field, this kind of oversight would have cost me my job. There’s absolutely no way this app was even Alpha tested!
I was also in the software development field and fell exactly the same way. If I had released garbage like this, I would have had a new job stocking shelves. I guess that since many of us purchased the lifetime subscription and there is no real income from us, they really don’t give a damn if we leave or not.
Is this issue specifically impacting individuals with lifetime memberships? If that is the case, there may be legal options to address the situation. Should the answer be affirmative, it would be prudent to organize and consider initiating a class action lawsuit. Communication from Plex has been absent on this matter. Given the significant number of users reportedly affected by this rollout, one would expect them to at least revert to a previous version of their app to mitigate the issues caused by the malfunction.
No, it affects ALL users that are using Roku devices. Plex has a bad habit of ignoring most user complaints believing that the users will just get used to it and quiet down and for the most part they have been correct. But this time, I think that they went to far and many of the Roku users will move elsewhere. Fortunately for me, the Samsung app has not yet been destroyed and from what I am seeing, it’s only the Roku app that has been rendered pretty much useless. This gives me time to research and configure something new to record and watch my TV shows. I am hearing a lot about jellyfin and have started looking into it. Hopefully, the idiots at Plex that decided to release this garbage will see the error of their ways and reverse this but I’m not counting on it.
I can adjust to most of the changes, but this is a deal-breaker. This needs to be addressed FIRST. This isn’t a personal preference. This is straight up broken.
Their staff can’t even read the forums to figure out there’s a problem. They’re addressing it now, but asking what is happening for “me.” Oh, I dunno idiots, maybe look at every ■■■■■■■ post about Roku not working. How stupid and incompetent are you that you can’t use your own two eyes.
I fixed the pause, RR, FF and basic remote issues by uninstalling the Plex app on the Roku, adding it back after a TV reboot, then logging back in, and all TV remote buttons now work.
Fire the morons who developed this Roku UI. I am a lifetime Plex Pass user. I bought the Plex Pass because Plex allowed me to have things the way I want!!! I want the option to control what I want to see on the UI!!! Allow users to control what they want and roll back the lame UI!!! Else I will go back to Embry or Jellyfin!!!
Update– I simply told the Roku to restart the Plex app and the remote commands are now working again in the Plex UI. So that issue is not present anymore to me anyway.
One thing I have reported separately is there is a bug with the Library bar. The bar is forcefully displaying other’s libraries/servers that are shared to me, which is FINE that it’s there and accessible however un-favoriting it in the customization menu for it does not “hide” it. It still has their server name just sitting there. I call this a bug because before, you could “hide” or un-pin them from the side bar but if you wanted to go find them, you were only a couple clicks away. Now it’s right in your face whether you want it there or not but I also don’t see another way to find local or shared servers.
I didn’t think anything could be worse than the way they absolutely destroyed the iPad app. It still doesn’t work half as well as the old app did. This Roku update makes the experience almost impossible. I had to uninstall and reinstall just to be able to access the menus, but some menus are still inaccessible. A program I recorded on the DVR will not play back and I don’t even know where the DVR is managed anymore. Anyone have experience with Emby?
Adding that thumbnail was completely useless to begin with. But yes, clicking it locks up the app and nothing will work. Exiting to the Roku home screen and entering Plex won’t even fix it. You must reboot your Roku before Plex will work again. Such a massive joke! Whoever designed this deserves to be fired and so does the person above him who approved all this trash.
Confirmed, clicking on the season thumbnail locks up the interface to any remote press other than Back and Home.
I’ve found that when I exit out of Plex, I can simply hit * over the Plex icon on my main Roku screen and tell it to restart the app. This fixes my issue with the remote response. No reboot necessary.
There is no option to restart the app when selecting it on the Roku Home Screen and pressing the *asterisk button. All you get are options to check for updates. Remove app, move app. So what are you talking about when you say you tell it to ‘restart the app’? Show us a screenshot image if you can.
Yes there is, at least on mine. But I did learn that there is a caveat to seeing this as an option.
Upon turning everything on to grab the screen shot for you, I too noticed there wasn’t an option to restart the app and thought that was strange because I know I had to do this earlier this morning one time again. So I opened up the Plex app then went back to the home screen of the Roku and it was there. So you have to have been in the Plex app at least somewhat recently to see “Restart App” as an option.
Anyway, to show proof and a screen shot of what I’m talking about, here you go. Again, the process for me was after having the app opened and then going back to the Roku main menu then going back to the Plex app icon and pressing the Star (*) key to see this menu.
