App crashing when trying to access libraries

This new Roku update had broken ALL of my devices. I DEMAND a Plex employee ACTUALLY read the posts that are littering this channel. THIS UPDATE SUCKS!!!

In my case I can’t even experience this crap other people are because you broke everything.

I have multiple Roku Ultra’s and all of them crash as soon as I even attempt to see my libraries. The Plex app just stops and goes back to the Roku home screen. In the case if my Roku soundbar device it days my server is not running. But it can play things from the “Continue watching” heading. It can’t find anything via search but anything played recently that hasn’t finished can play. So obviously the server is there and running!

All of the Ultra devices can also play recent items. Those devices can search and find things, but I cannot browse my libraries.

IT IS VERY OBVIOUS YOU PEOPLE AT PLEX DID NOT TEST THIS RELEASE BEFORE YOU PUT IT INTO PRODUCTION.

and you did that without any warning. Whomever is in charge of this SHOULD BE FIRED!!!

Again, I DEMAND and Plex employee reply to this post and let ALL OF US know when you are ROLLING BACK this update!!!

And once you do that. DON”T CHANGE IT!!! It wasn’t broken. It worked just fine!!!

At least they’re consistent in that

There was one reply from an employee earlier that asked if I’d tried turning it off and turning it back on again. From the lack of updates, it appears that management has gotten smart enough to realize that “if you’re in a hole, stop digging.”

I got the same response. Only response I have seen in about 30 hours.

Entitled much?

Oh please, give me a break and get off your high horse. There are literally thousands of people upset about this and one person is asking for a response on everyone’s behalf, not just their own. That is not entitlement.

Thousands? You know this how?

Look, I get that some people are having problems, while many others are simply unhappy with the UI. But the ‘demands’, yelling and exaggerations that some people are engaging in is not very productive.

Thousands is an assumption, sure, but look at how much this blew up not just here but on Reddit and other forums. Also there’s always a significant portion of users who do not ever reach out to complain or ask for help, doesn’t mean they’re not just as upset.

Demands at this point are only way to get the attention of plex because if you’ve been around these forums any amount of time then you know that communication is not their strength.

They have 25 million users according to them. This is affecting all Roku users, there’s no way it isn’t thousands or tens of thousands. Most of them probably don’t come to the forums.

Exactly my experience

It is not about entitlement. It is about accountability. Plex need to be held accountable for breaking thousand, yes thousands, of users systems. They put something out in production that was faulty and incomplete. And that they knew had issues and user complaints prior to releasing it and did it anyway. As a software development manager my head would be on the chopping block for a mistake of this magnitude. I read several articles on other sites reporting on all the issues and complaints with this version from back in May when they previewed it. They apparently have not address any of those issues before breaking their Roku users.

None of this is exaggerations, these are facts! Plex needs to answer to their users! Period, end of story.

Listen here Bob.

No one cares what you think - we are here to voice our concerns. So either get in line to complain like the rest of us or get the heck out of way! We’re tired of the unending nonsense that is this absolutely egregious UI update from Plex!

The line MUST be drawn HERE! THIS FAR AND NO FURTHER!

Why is it unreasonable to expect a product to do what it says it will? Currently, it just dumps me back to the Roku main menu.

Surely that isn’t something that I should just smile and say “oh golly gee, I guess they’ll fix it soon!” My mama didn’t raise a sucker like that.

Another article I read suggests that this update isn’t really an update to the existing app. Rather that it is a complete rewrite. If that is the case then Plex could certainly put the old version, that one that works, out there as a legacy app and allow people to use it.

Go to Roku and get ahold of their tech support through livechat. Their engineers can directly contact plex staff

I saw 2.9k likes on a thread about the UI being broken, you’d need to know how many users check the forums to see what that equates to in reality, but I’d guess hundreds of thousands.

I only signed up for the forums after 10 years since it’s so broken.

But I also agree, we can move to Jellyfin, apparently it’s an up and comer without the crap Plex is starting to throw down the pipe. Don’t complain, just leave, there’s options.

If it wasn’t for the 10 years of service, I wouldn’t even be here, I’d be on the Jellyfin forums asking if my setup is optimal …

Yep it’s not a suggestion, it is a complete rewrite. They are unifying the code across all platforms to make things easier on themselves and infinitely worse for the users. They have admitted that while they could release the old app it would have to be a “new” app with a new app ID. We said sure, do that. They said No. “We’re not going in that direction.” They know it’s broken and refuse to offer us a fix. This has been going on since about april or may.

This has been available for anyone to use since May and had been tested quite a bit. Release Notes for New Experience Preview (Roku)

I am not aware of any plans to do that. The dev team is in the process of fixing some issues and hope to get it pushed to Roku soon for approval

And yet this is the state it’s released to the masses in? Absolutely insane. I don’t know what is going on over at Plex these days but y’all have completely lost it. You’ve lost site of what your users want and need. You’ve lost site of all your commitments to paying customers features. Communication is practically non-existent. It’s wild to see thousands of people so upset after months of beta testers (die hard plex users) pouring countless feedback into this rebuild and telling you all flat out that it’s not ready, yet you insist on pushing it out anyway. I just can’t wrap my head around it. Is Plex trying to self destruct?

[edit] I can’t even imagine what is going to happen when they push this to AppleTV. Oh boy. You think things are bad now? Just you wait.
