I was having the same issue with RT ratings not appearing, it was driving me nuts. And after reading this post:
I got it to magically work without having to do the Plex Dance.
Here’s what I did:
1- in the web app, go to settings (the wrench on the top right)
2- go to Server --> Agents --> Plex Movie
3- grab “Plex Movie” and move it to the top spot, then grab it again and move it back to the second spot
4- next to “Plex Movie”, click on the settings (the gear symbol), select “Rating Source” as “IMDB”, click Save
5- next to “Plex Movie”, click on the settings again, select “Rating Source” as “Rotten Tomatoes”, click Save
6- next to CineMaterial, click the Info button, then close the window
7- go to one of your movies and click on the dot dot dot and click Refresh Metadata, see if your Rotten T ratings show up!
8- if it worked for one movie, then go to your library and click on “Refresh MetaData” for the entire library
I know this sounds all random, but doing the above somehow caused some setting to be reset and the RT ratings magically started appearing. I don’t know which part of the above procedure fixed it, so I included everything I touched, just in case.
Give it a try and please report back if this workaround is working for you.

Am I right that this is a rather “mature” installation, which was updated over several years?
There might be other issues slumbering in the agent configuration on your system.

This particular installation of PMS is probably around 4 years old, with regular updating every 3-4 months or so. If I see other obvious issues, I will consider resetting the prefs. Thanks.
PS- I’ve been a Plex user since 2008. I run PMS on a custom built FreeNAS BSD server.
I’m someone who doesn’t post regulary but I’ll take 5s to answer…
THIS F%CKNG SH%T WORKS !!!
My install has 4 years old and set on beta channel update (update my plex as soon as possible) and just hit this ■■■■■■■ info button and do an metadata update on a test library… and it’s work…
I’m green, it was so simple… Now I’ve rotten tomatoes rating on about 90% of my items !!! But just one precision : I think rotten’s api has a cooldown between several http request. It takes about 20h for 90% for 700 movies. So don’t hope that your library’s rating changing in second. Take your time. And you’ll be a winner !

Ok, just did Plex Dance on my movies library. Seeing Rotten Tomatoes scores now. However, some movies show the IMDb score.
Movies matched with the TheMovieDatabase agent won’t get RT ratings.
Movies must be matched with the Plex Movie agent.
Some movies won’t get RT ratings nonetheless. Those movies will ‘fall back’ automatically to IMDB ratings. (This issue is currently being worked on. But it’s a longer-term effort.)
This is happening more often. Basically all new movies I’m adding have IMDB ratings instead RT. No matter how many plex dance I do. Annoying.

Thanks! This worked for me, except I left “Plex Movie” in the top spot (followed the first part of step 3, and didn’t move it back down to the second spot).

Been having this issue for over a year… and this fix worked perfectly - even on the latest plex version (1.12.0.4829). Thank you!
Wow, this is an old thread, I’m glad to see that in August 2019, my “procedure” is still helping people! But sad to see that this issue still persists in PMS.
