Hi i need help configuring an Asus gaming router i just bought . i can only get an indirect connection. i have reached out to the new ISP i signed up to yesterday and to Asus and they are unable to help , hopefully some one here can help. Thanx Phil
ps From console PublicAddressManager: WAN IP on router does not match public IP from plex.tv

What is your ISP? If they have you on CGNAT then you may need to ask them to get you off that with for a Dynamic or unique IP .

Also,

  • What is the WAN IP displayed in the Asus router?

  • What is the public IP displayed Plex Media Server?

Don’t need the full IP address, just the first two octets - 192.168.x.x, 100.64.x.x, etc.

HI , thanx for the replys , firstly my new ISP is Superloop, a new provider in Aus
and secondly the ip;s are private 192.168.x.x and public 220.233.x.x in plex
WAN IP is 100.104.x.x

@FordGuy61 and ?

It looks like superloop default is to use CGNAT. So looks like you need to ask them for a dynamic public or static IP.

Hi , yes i will just to be sure but before i changed ISP i connected the router to my old modem router and that when connection issues started so to me it seemed to be the routers issue

That will cause a doublenat which is basically the same as a CGNAT

They do, I had to contact superloop to opt out of CGNAT after leaving Telstra. It takes about an hour or so and you will need to restart your Wifi Router and Connect box.

Opt out = FREE
Fixed Static WAN IP= $10 AUD p/m

Hi, you were right, they did use CGNAT, so the changed it to a dynamic IP but now i’m unable to access the server at all externally, but everything is fine on the home network, so at the moment now i have a spinning when trying to connect.
Thanx Phil .
p.s They want to charge $5 a month for static IP

You probably just need to set up port forwarding in router. I’m not sure what brand router they give you so can’t tell you specifics about the interface but maybe @SE56 knows where to find info since they have Superloop as well.

I have read the troubleshoot thread and i feel a bit like the Simpson dog “bla, blabla , bla”. gunna pop down to Office works and grab a cheap router and see what happens

@BigWheel , thanx for your help, while i was out the server connected and everything seems fine with a quike test, luckily there’s no such thing as a cheap router anymore so i put it back on the shelf and saved $60 .
Thanx again to all that helped , Phil

Glad it working, there was never a need for a new Wifi router if the previous one worked.

Just remember that you do have two devices to restart, the connection box and the Wifi Router when connection issues suddenly appear. Not that I have had many, my 1000/50 connection just works. It achieves 940/ 47 all day long and I’m semi rural, so out in the sticks a bit.

Thanx mate, i only bought the router to compliment the new pc i built, then realized Dodo require a modem/router when i tried to connect it up, so thats when i went with Superloop, i really didnt need the extra upload but its nice to have a bit of over head , i only got the 34 upload which should be heaps :+1: I will add though , it seems i had to disable the firewall in the router to get it to work

I find Superloop a pleasant surprise and great value, so I hope you experience the same.

Cheers from a (Banana bender)

Thanx From the Goldy
