Running filebot on an existing library to tidy up poor structure - advised?

Server Version#:1.16.2.1321

I’m new to Plex.

I wasn’t sure my hardware would be fast enough so before committing any time to file renaming and directory structure I just did the minimum to get up and running with Plex Server and added my existing media to libraries as is.

As I result I now know 2 things:
(1) Plex works great
(2) It’s not smart enough to cleanly classify my media in the shape I currently have it.

So next step is to restructure the folders and rename files, ideally by running filebot over the drive.

This will move existing files into new subdirs, rename files, and create one new parent dir because I currently have Films and TV Shows library mapped to the same Videos parent dir* and I want to split it into separate Films and TV Shows.

One thing I’m not clear about - will Plex pick up and reindex these changes in the existing libraries automatically, or is it better to delete all the current libraries from Plex and recreate from scratch once the filesystem is clean? I’ve seen posts about moving to new drives but not much about restructuring existing ones, and what I have seen suggests I might end up with ghost folders in Plex.

Thanks for any help

"" I mapped the same dir to two libraries because because I thought Plex might be able to recognise films vs shows and only import the correct type to each library, but it imported everything into both.*

I would go this route personally. Especially if you’ve only been trying out Plex.

I would also advise that you create two higher level folders, one for Movies (Films) and another for TV Shows. Then when you recreate your libraries, you will create one for each, and point the Movies library to the Movies folder and the TV Shows library to TV Shows folder.
