Same server account on Macbook and Mac Mini?

Server Version#:Latest for mac
Player Version#:Latest for mac

I thought this would be simple.

So I just started experimenting with Plex and while I was fiddling about I installed the plex app and media server on one of my macbooks. It worked out surprisingly well, but I have limited USB ports for the external HD’s on this laptop and decides to install the same app under the same account on the same network (I think, it’s using the same wifi anyway) on a mac mini with another set of external HD’s and there is where my confusion lies.

I am signed in on the mac mini but it only shows hard discs and user info connected to my macbook that I signed up with last night, it’s as if the mac mini doesn’t even exist inside the app on the mini.

This is when I discovered plex isn’t for children and decided to grow up by posting about it. Because I am assuming to get plex app and server to run locally on the same network and account on multiple computers requires some sort of trick or two.

I request that you please give my specific pathway directions on where to go to fix this and resolve this, and whether or not what you’re directing me to needs to be done on the desktop app or on the website server. Plex certainly is a complex application, more than I anticipated but am happy to learn step by step by first learning how to do what I describe above.

Thank you

You need to access the new server through its local IP address in order to complete the setup. If you’re on that Mac Mini of yours, you should be able to do that by opening http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser; if you’re on another device inside your home network, use http://[Mac Mini IP address]:32400/web instead.

This should bring up a setup dialog/wizard where you can name your new server and link it to your (existing) Plex account. Afterwards the new server and its content should also show in other Plex apps signed into your account. At worst you’ll find newly created libraries listed in the More section of the apps‘ sidebar navigation.
