Samsung 2011 plasma (PN59D8000FF) can't find a shared library

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058
Player Version#: unknown - older Samsung “smart hub” on a 2011 era plasma TV

I’ve shared my library with a friend. She can see everything, as expected, on her iPhone.

We’ve installed Plex on her older-model (2011) Samsung PN59D8000FF plasma TV.

We can see that she’s logged into her Plex account on the plasma TV, but we can’t find my library. And when I say “can’t find” I mean it doesn’t appear at all. It’s not a “not authorized” issue. It simply isn’t there.

The TV can find Netflix content, so internet connectivity doesn’t appear to be the issue.

We’ve tried logging out & back in, but that didn’t remedy the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

The TV might be simply too old.
The app that was compatible with old Samsungs before model year 2012 was not able to handle Plex Home, nor ‘secure connections’.
You might be able to somehow use it in the same local network with the server – if you switch off both Plex Home and secure connections. But it is a crutch.

You are better off plugging in a device which is still supported, like a newer Roku or FireTV or nVidia Shield.
