Hello - I use the Plex app for my Samsung smart TV and have never had a problem. Just recently, however, it refuses to connect to any of my friends shared libraries. One instance says “This version of Plex requires Plex Media Server 1.5.1 or higher” and in another “Insecure connections are preferred and the selected server cannot be reached insecurely with your current settings.”
Now, forgive me, I’m tech savvy enough to get by but I get overwhelmed with some of this stuff. Since I am running Plex for Samsung 4.1.1, I would think the first error message should be a non issue, but I can’t seem to correct it. With regards to the second, I have gone into settings and tried to allow fallback to insecure connections on the same server and/or always and that didn’t work either.
I should state that I do not have any of these issues on my iPhone or iPads. I’ve tried to run through every available avenue or setting adjustment within the app on my TV and just can’t seem to figure anything out. Any suggestions, tips, hints, tricks or the like would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I’m not sure. Its the most recent/updated version of the app, but to my knowledge it doesn’t have any info on the server it is using or how I could update that.
You mentioned you couldn’t connect to your friends libraries. It would be your friend who needs to update. Not you.
Plex has updated it app, which you are using, and it requires that the server you connect to (This would be your friends libraries) has to be updated as well. It looks like your friends server isn’t up to date therefore your app (tv), which is called a client, cannot connect.
I have the same issue. My friend did update his server. I am able to log in anD watch my movies on my computer, cell phone and tablet. But I am unable to view movies on my new 2019 Samsung URU7100 TV. HELP!!!
Before you ask, server is up to date, app is up to date. The Media Server Status continues to throw the unavailable error and retries automatically as my settings are to prefer insecure connections as the message requests.
Did you read the above complaint or just paste a response? Our issue is not finding the server on the platform, it is connecting to said server from the TV specifically. Like the other poster, I can also access the server via desktop application as well as mobile application. Is the TV application for Samsung a third party build, and, if so is the developer aware of this issue?
As I don’t work for plex, yes I read; however, several people have opened the app unable to find their libraries and for a lot of them it’s simply they haven’t gone into the new UI and selected for those libraries to be shown. If I was wrong for attempting to help my apologies but don’t shoot someone for offering help.
Your rudeness not with standing. The current Samsung plex app for TVs newer than 2015 is created by plex. 2015 and below was made third party and no longer being serviced.
Apologies, did not mean to come across as rude this is just frustrating. I can see the library just fine, it attempts to connect then displays a warning symbol (triangle with a ! In the middle). I have spoken with other people who have late model Samsung TVs and they too report the same connection issue.
