For the last couple of months I’ve been suffering with an issue on my Samsung TV. Whenever I select the Plex app I’m always asked to Sign In. So, I go to plex.tv/link, login and enter the code displayed on the TV. I then go through the Plex TV app to set my preferences, Auto Sign In, 24 Hour Time, etc., and everything works OK for the rest of the day.
Unfortunately, the next day I’m asked to Sign In again, so I have to go back to the plex.tv/link site, login and enter the code displayed on the TV and re-setup my preferences, again. I’ve deleted and re-installed the TV app a couple of times, but it keeps doing it. The settings in my online account don’t change, so I’m guessing it just related to the TV app.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be, or other suggestions on what I could try to solve this? Any help is appreciated.

Hi, nibbles.
Thanks for replying. Turns out error logging was already enabled, so the attached log file should contain a wealth of info.
Hmm, seems as though the zip file is too large to attach (1.25Mb). I’ve uploaded it to my mega store, this link should allow you to download it. If you need more info let me know.
Playback is stopped before turning off the TV.
I don’t exit the Plex app before I turn off the TV.
The TV is powered off from a power bar when not in use.
I’ll leave everything powered up tonight and see what happens tomorrow morning.
Try also to close the plex app first. This is the moment when I suppose it saves its settings into permanent storage.
Do you first put the TV into standby mode?
Keep also in mind that many TVs are still running for a few seconds after they have blanked their screen. So you might want to delay switching off the power bar, after you put it into standby mode.
Over the last few days I’ve been running a few experiments to try and determine what is causing this issue. To summarise, I can turn off everything connected to the TV, including the PC running the Plex server, overnight and the Plex TV app will remember it’s setting. However, if I power off the TV at night then by the morning the Plex TV app will have lost my settings. If I leave the TV in stand-by over night, the settings are retained.
So, it would seem that some time between 10pm – 5am, if the TV is power off, the Plex app will lose it’s settings. Does anyone have any insight as to why this would happen? Is the Plex mothership resetting the app if it doesn’t receive a reply at midnight? Does my Samsung TV just hate me? Or, is it a poltergeist that’s unhappy with my choice of shows?
Plex has no role in this. Most likely, the TV is supposed to store the few settings of its installed apps in non-volatile memory. It looks like it doesn’t do that and instead keeps all settings in RAM. Which of course will be reset when the device loses power.
