Samsung QLED 2017 TV app: SRT subtitles not synchronised / phasing out

Hi, I have a Samsung QLED 55’’ 2017 TV with the latest PLEX app. My PLEX server is running on a Netgear READYNAS RN-214 also totally up-to-date, set to stream only in DIRECT PLAY (not transcoding).

SRT subtitles are not synchronised or phase out as time progresses or whenever I resume viewing any MKV or MP4 video file with either embedded or external SRT subtitles.

Please note, I have two older Samsung TVs (2014 and 2015 models) that display embedded or external SRT files just fine (with the right timing), using the exact same PLEX server.

This is obviously an issue in the 2017 Samsung QLED TV PLEX app. Such app also seems to lack a menu or submenu to adjust SRT timing. This new TV was expensive, so it’s quite frustrating to have an experience this bad using PLEX, when compared to my other older (and much cheaper) TVs.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this? Help!

I had a similar issue with my Samsung (2015 curved 3D) when it came out. The codecs were bad and the network drivers were, ummm, less than tolerable. They eventually worked it out but there was nothing I could do other than tweak the app and pause playback for 2-3 seconds and resume.

Apparently the Plex app for Tizen (the OS in most recent Samsung TVs) is always REMUXING (direct streaming instead of direct playing) video files when any subtitles are selected (even SRT files that are set to never be burn onscreen). I know this because when I select SRT subtitles, playback stops and resumes after a while with phased out subtitles. This doesn’t happen in my older Samsung TVs (when I select SRT subtitles, playback never stops and subtitles appear immediately, correctly timed).

Using Plex with my new 2017 Samsung TV has been truly a miserable experience :frowning:
