Samsung QLED 2018 Direct play - unable to fast forward, rewind, skip , resume

Server Version#:1.14.1.5488
Player Version#:3.72.1
Tizen Version: 4

When Direct Playing video, I am unable to fast forward, rewind, skip, or resume play from any point other than the beggining of the file.

The same files will work as expected on Nvdia Sheild direct play to the Samsung TV, so I don’t believe it is an issue with the files themselves.

They are currently trying to solve some bugs in the app that may be related to yours. Post logs so someone can look into it.

Logs attached. Not sure if these are the right ones?Plex Media Server.log (611.7 KB)

Fortunately logs only do so much. While yes, they help in the future, they
unfortunately do nothing NOW.
complaining doesn’t seem to be doing anything.
knocking users when they’re down doesn’t help.

Obviously, they (Plex) had a previous version that worked.
For some reason, they took it away.
Fail.

Please just re-release a version that actually WORKS that so we can start re-enjoying plex again.
losing customers is really the only thing that they are accomplishing.
especially with the countless others that will try and fill the void

Thanks. So is there no way to open a ticket so a Plex rep can review? I’m a bit confused as to the process. Do people just post their issues here and hope a Plex team member randomly comes across and responds?

We’re currently looking into some issues with the player. Hopefully we’ll have a fix soon.

Hi,

Wondering if this has been resolved?

I just bought a Q7FN 2018 and my Plex says video is direct play but audio isnt. Not sure if that is how it was on my 2013 UN55F7500FN but my 2018 is having issues playing 720p/1080p mkv from a NAS and its really frustrating. Im ready to put my 2013 Samsung back up its so bad. I upgraded my TV 5 years and got the same 7 series Samsung for a upgrade. Now I cannot stream movies with Plex from my NAS without constant pausing and audio out of sync. I am furious and heard from multiple sources that Plex used to work on this TV and now it doesnt. Please support us. There are tens of thousands Plex/Q7FN subscribers in the dust because of this. Please PLEX help me! I even have a Plex Pass because I believed in this app so much a couple years ago. Now my view of this app is shattered. Do not buy a Samsung 2018 until Plex fixes their issues. sLumpy is this issue still being worked on? Why cant Plex just go back to a previous release that works for the Samsung 2018? Is there a beta I can use? I have a $2000 paperweight because PLEX is broke on my brand new 2018 Samsung Q7FN.

I’m also having issues with the 2018 Samsung didn’t know about all these problems until after trying to use the Samsung tv Plex app buffering issues with 4k , weird glitch where the video will freeze and the audio keeps playing on 1080p/720p files with dts. Checked nas shoes cpu uses 10% while it says its transcoding which is confusing why it would stutter like that.
I’m hoping this gets resolved soon. Read on other forums about reverting the Plex tv app to 3.3.4 version might fix some issues is there any way to redownload previous versions?

Yeah thats what happens with me. Video freezes a few frames and audio get out of sync but then syncs back up. Its so annoying the wife and I cannot even sit through a movie. I ripped my bluray collection to mkv with bitrate no larger than 10mbps. I was playing a 4mbps 720p and it couldnt even keep up with that. Its a audio issue for sure. PLEX should have this issue at the top of their priority list. I bet a indie dev could squash this bug in a day. But a big studio like PLEX cannot even get a 720p 4mbps MKV video playing? Its not my server running a Xeon processor and been using PLEX on my 2013 Samsung for years with zero problems. Now I drop $2k on a new Q7FN TV and PLEX cannot play a movie without stutter and audio sync issues? I guess we can blast social media until it gets fixed. I am hoping from a reply from sLumpy on a update as I dont want to put PLEX on blast on Reddit. Either PLEX fixes or I return my Samsung Q7FN. A update would be nice from a PLEX employee.

Try the 3.90.2 release that just went out, and enable prefer insecure connections in settings. If that doesn’t work, new logs and samples to help debug would be great, because I can not reproduce the issue on my device anymore.

Ok thanks for the reply sLumpy. I will try that when I get home. Excuse my frustrations but hoping you can understand and help me. I will give you a update tomorrow.

@sLumpy
That did the trick! I went to settings and set both of the insecure connection options to “Always”. No more random small stutter and audio out of sync on a 1080p MKV 15mbps. Thanks so much! I will update this post if anything changes.

Hey if your having problems with DTS tracks playing on your 2018 Samsung because they removed DTS from supported files google “Popcorn MKV AudioConverter”. Converts DTS to Dolby Digital. Its been working great!

I see u tried the insecure rout slumpy mentioned I’ll try that first

Is that safe just when I read to use insecure connection I figure that ppl outside my local network can access my stuff without my permission zsorry for the noobish question this the first Samsung smart tv that is giving me that weird glitch where the audio plays and video freezes

Yes. That will fix the Plex issue. Popcorn converter will fix audio not playing on files you play directly off your TV. You can plug in a flash drive to the usb port on the TV and play videos that way. Thats how I play all 4K content as I think it looks better than Plex. But Samsung 2018 doesnt support DTS audio so you will get no sound in files that have DTS audio. The converter fixes that.

I get that same issue u were having with stutters. the audio and video both work just I get random video freezes while the audio plays and the audio is dts 5.1 using the tv app, mine occurs during a 30 min show 1.2 gig mkv file. But I’ll try the insecure connection route see if that fixes it thanks for suggestion and responding as fast as u did.

Just an update I still get video freezes while audio plays direct stream video while dts is transcoded I check my nas cpu it’s hitting around 10% usuage so it’s kind of weird i still get these issues. Any other ideas what it could be? Even if Plex is transcoding I don’t see why it would do this. I also tried the insecure network in tv app and still does t resolve it.

No, it just means the connection to the server will be unencrypted. It has nothing to do with remote access and within your home networks it’s not really necessary anyway.
