Samsung Smart Hub Plex integration dead as of latest version

Did a Qualys SSL Labs scan of plex.tv; it is reporting an issue with one of the certificate chains where the Intermediate certificate is not being sent by the server. Windows will just download it, but other devices may not.

The strangest thing is that on an older SAMSUNG TV with a version of PLEX of type 2.1.x it works fine.

Hopefully they can solve it

I’m in the same situation. This is not a TV so old that it is without support for Plex. I hope they solve it as soon as possible.

My older samsung tv (2015 K) was working fine as well until I switched users and couldn’t connect/log in or link my TV again.

Sale issue here on a Samsung frame. It’s very frustrating. Any view on a fix?

So it’s my birthday today, and I get up to watch some RuPaul and behold every tv’s (all samsungs) PLEX app is broken :frowning: Happy birthday to me.

Not working for me either with Samsung TV. I reset factory settings with no luck. Reset every router/server etc.

I uninstalled the old 3rd party app…boy was that a mistake. Not the best UI but it worked.

Since yesterday night, my Samsung had the same bug, but i fixed the problem otherway, if you have an Xbox, Xbox-Serie X, PS4 or PS5 pluggued in your TV, you can install the Plex Apps on your console and log with your account, don’t forget to set the parameters at “Auto connect” and “Quality video set at Original”. It works fine for me with Xbox Serie X and PS5, good luck guys!

As jcnz82 pointed out it is indeed a certificate problem. But when visiting plex.tv via browser you will get a cloudflair certificate.

The Plex App accesses a different Server with indeed a Let’s Encrypt Certificate. But the Problem is not Identrusts Root “DST Root X3” but Let’s Encrypts own Root “ISRG Root X1” wich was created in 2015.
If everything was correct configured, Let’s Encrypt would still work on older Smart TVs because of the “DST Root X3”. There has to be a Problem in the Chain Configuration on the Plex Server the App tries to reach.

My Conclusion would be that the client Certificate is 2x in the chain. At least thats what is sticking out:

How it should be:
*.plex.bz → R3 → ISRG Root X1 / DST Root X3

How it is:
*.plex.bz → *.plex.bz → R3 → ISRG Root X1 / DST Root X3

Downgrade the server!!! OR reinstall?

I downgrade to 1.23.2.4625-ver and the Tizen Plex OPERATE!

Looks like the Plex Infrastructure team have just swapped out the Lets Encrypt certificate with a Digicert one.

That has solved my problem, the Plex app is now working correctly again on my 2015 UA55JU6400.

After being unable to access Plex on my TV’s yesterday, today it seems to be working, I noticed they updated their SSL certs again yesterday, perhaps this has resolved this issue

Good news is the “DigiCert Global Root CA” certificate is valid until November 2031.

Provided they stick with certificates signed by that root cert, we should be all good.

Looking better now;

Same problem here, Smart Hub stopped working and I miss it for my TV shows.

Also… ‘slight’ bug to report: I put auto-play off and the setting works, however say if I goto my movie collections and play something from there then when it’s done it tries to auto-play the next movie anyway, please fix this also.

Problem with older Samsung persists for me. The plex version on tizen is 5.10.0 I guess I’m screwed?

I have a 2020 Samsung QE85Q80T & have had no problems with Plex over the last week so I think this must be a problem only with certain TVs not all Samsung TVs.

Same issue with my Samsung 2020 (The Frame/QE50LS03TAUXXC).
Latest fw (2014.1) on the TV, Plex version 5.18.1 since a few days but info on the Smart Hub is month old. My Plex server runs 1.23.3 on a Synology NAS.

I’ve started looking into this and have no been able to reproduce the issue on my end. Could I get some logs?

  • Settings → Advanced → Log to Server
  • Go to your home screen
  • Watch something on the home screen’s Continue Watching that isn’t the first item
  • Go back to home screen and see that the Continue Watching list has updated
  • Download logs from the Plex web app and DM me them
