I’ve got Plex set up and running on my Qnap and can connect to it from my mobile app. When I try to connect to Plex through my TV I get an error saying ‘We couldn’t reach a media server’. Everything is connected on the local network.
what kind of Plex Client do you use on your TV set – the Smart Hub version?
do you have any restrictions for your tv (e.g. a firewall blocking it from accessing the internet) – usually you need to allow the client to connect to plex.tv to link the client to your account.
@“marky79@gmail.com” The TS-212 is armv5 so you must be using an old PMS version, right ? Depending on the client used in the TV, it may refuse to connect to old PMS versions.
I am using the Smart Hub version and the TV is connecting to the internet without any issues. It is allowing me to connect the smart TV app to my Plex account.
I’m not sure about the PMS version being old, this is my first attempt at running Plex. From looking at my account it looks as though it’s version 0.9.15.3.1674
Some Plex clients can find PMS if GDM is enabled in Server, but some do not have this capability. Your PMS is too old and can’t connect to plex.tv, therefore plex.tv is not informed that your PMS exists, so when your TV asks to plex.tv what are the available servers your’s is not listed (only the ones from your friends).
If you indicate what is your TV model name, and the name of the Plex client installed on it, I can move this thread to another forum so that you get support. Maybe the client you have installed supports GDM… Otherwise you need to stick with DLNA, or install PMS in another server.
I tried manually adding the IP however still the same problem.
After doing a bit more reading last night and I think @moody_blue has hit the nail on the head. I’ll hold off on getting Plex up and running until I upgrade my NAS
