Samsung TV Connection Problem

is there any progress on this? Been down now for over 1 week.

This worked for me, less than a year old Samsung Q series

update? everyone with a samsung tv have a no working plex at the moment?

If allowing insecure connection and setting server manually in the plex tv app it solves the problem. How can we make a workarraund on this? By making a reverse proxy? would that solve the issue?

Checking a few things, I believe this is based on how the Samsung TV is handling SSL connections. Because Samsung is not updating their TV anymore, my guess is that the update Plex made to be more secure with their new certificate, they disabled tlsv1.1 and probably a few insecure ciphers which Samsung Tizen OS is not configured to use. Considering I only bought this tv 2 years ago, I’m kind of annoyed. Time to buy a Chromecast and figuring out how to disable the smart home features.

Yes, so if a custom ssl certificate is added with a custom domain it should solve it?

Sorry but this TLS v1.1 is not Right, all Tizen Devices are able to connect to TLS v1.3, and if you read my other Thread and Understand than it works all like Charm

It works on LG tvs at least. But only until they start expiring as well I guess.

Just to be clear here I see some people stating this is an issue with the TV’s in question. That’s a white lie. Every other player I have regardless if it’s Netflix, Primevideo or something else still works. Most likely because unlike Plex they don’t care about using the certificate provided by the manufacturer in their client to server authentication scheme. Alternatively they have decided to just whitelist a bunch of certificates beyond their expirey date. Plex could easily do the same thing. They are making our TV’s obsolete because they feel like it. Not because they have to. After all EOL for a Smart TV does not mean the TV itself stops working. It just means there will be no added support for new formats and features. Which really is’nt much of an issue as Plex is already built to transcode and adapt content to a bunch of formats already. All they need to do is add a spesific profile for legacy smart TV’s from the various manufacturers and things will work fine. We might miss out on some new Plex features on these clients, but that’s it.

any update on this?

dont hold your breath on plex fixing anything. they rather blame everyone else.
like Anderstn say, everything else works.

Ta add: My Ancient Samsung work ok with plex besides some idiotic playback errors like sudden ā€œnetwork errorā€ though nothing is wrong with the network, then impossible to resume a video or jump forward/back.
These things happens more frequent at every plex ā€œupdateā€, why i stay on ā€œoldā€ servers as long as only possible.

And this is exactly why I’ve refused to buy into Plex. There have been a few issues that they’ve been so slow to correct when loads of people are calling out for a fix to something broken by an update.

Emby is my fallback. I’ll go back to that until Plex can be bothered to fix it. I’d be so naffed off if I was paying for this but as it is, it’s free so I’ll just suck it up and find another method
