Doing some more reading, we may need to start a new thread and pile on there:
If you find an issue what should you do? Good question, glad you asked! Please:
Search for forum topics already covering the issue (if you’ve found a old topic let it rest and open a new top).
Open a forum topic with a title prefix “BUG:”, "REQUEST:"
Tell us your TV Manufacturer, model number and firmware revision. Trust me these are the most important details for all topics.
Samsung either dislikes Plex, or Plex can’t get their coding right for Samsung devices. I think at this point they should just call all of the Samsung apps, “kinda supported”
The app doesn’t work in Samsung Dex at all, hasn’t in months. I’ve even started having random audio errors, while watching Plex through the browser in Dex mode. Also tried Plex on a newer 2021 model Samsung TV yesterday, same audio issues.
Anecdotal experience, but I haven’t seen these issues with a Fire stick, Roku stick, or Mi TV
The issue in this thread is not really an app specific issue, its caused by a bug in the transcoder used by Plex when t does Audio-only transcoding.
You can maybe try disabling direct play or forcing Plex to transcode if you can’t downgrade to 1.24
The issue with the audio doesn’t happen with other devices as much because those devices support more audio codecs than the Samsung TV does.
Doesn’t track with my experience. My sister has a Roku stick and an older TV, everything transcodes to AAC stereo. I don’t think it’s ever direct played audio, or had an error.
Video transcoding does take care of the issue, but it’s not a solution for me.
Hey, could you give some status info for the community? There are plenty of users hoping and waiting for a solution, but we don’t know if and when (approx.) this issue will be fixed.
Also having this problem using Samsung QN95A with a HW-Q700A soundbar that has Atmos in soundbar but not the tv? Finding it frustrating. Lifelong Subscription latest server Version 1.26.0.5715
If I can help by providing log files etc then I would be more than happy to do so.
So far I can confirm that like others, when transcoding audio only from DTS to AAC to my samsung TV, I get intermittent dropped or missing audio (usually in the same spots on the file).
Re-encoding to AAC resolves the issue, as does disabling direct play and transcoding the entire file on the fly (obviously not ideal for 4k media where my server’s i3 chip can’t keep up).
It is quite painful having to selectively re-encode my entire library to exclude DTS audio tracks, so I am eager to hear more about a resolution once you identify the cause.
Just a bump to make sure the issue stays in the minds of current users and the devs.
If you need any experiments or logs, let me know @sLumpy - Happy to test configurations and report if required. This seems like it may be a code regression more than anything.
