Scan Library Files finds no items on USB flash drive

I installed Plex server on a Raspberry Pi (Raspbian stretch install). I placed my media on a USB flash drive (FAT32 formatted) and followed the naming convention found here (https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381023-naming-movie-files/)

/media/RPi/Sandisk
   /Movies
      /movie content
   /TV Shows
      /tv content

However, when I scan library files, Plex finds no items. But when I move my media to the Raspberry Pi’s internal storage, Plex finds them no problem.

/home/RPi/Videos
   /Movies
      /movie content
   /TV Shows
      /tv content

What am I doing wrong? Why can’t Plex see my media when they’re on the USB flash drive?

Permissions most likely

Thanks, yesternow, for the reply. I checked permissions on the Sandisk USB drive. The Movies and TV Shows folders both have drwxr-xr-x (755) permission. The media files all have -rw-r–r-- (644) permission. This matches the permission when I copied the files and folders to the /home/Rpi/Videos directory.

Please check the whole chain from / to the media files. Linux permissions are not propagated to /, i.e. they are not inherited. Good test: start a bash as user plex and try to access the media, e.g. with sudo -u plex /bin/bash

Btw: here is the perfect guide to avoid all problems when mounting external storage:
