Scan results in hundreds of duplicate items in Music Library

Server Version#: Version 1.40.0.7998
Player Version#: Version 4.125.1
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
If I delete the duplicates it deletes the files on the NAS
How do I clear the library without deleting files?

Need a lot more details.

It sounds like you’ve duplicated library settings (list of folders) somehow.
Have you confirmed there is one entry for the each appropriate parent folder group?

OK, I think I need to clear the library of all items and then rescan the files.
What is the best method of doing that?

The library has been fine for years, it only did this the last time I added a file.

If you think you need to clear the library –

  1. Edit the Music library section
  2. Remove the folder(s)
  3. SAVE
  4. Empty Trash
  5. Clean Bundles
  6. Optimize Database
  7. After it’s completed –
  8. ADD the folders again
  9. SAVE

If you end up with duplicates again (which show the same path) please show me (screenshot)

In Music library section when I remove the folder it won’t let me save (its greyed out…

Download your server logs please and attach.

Unable to save changes is a sign PMS can’t communicate with Plex.tv to authenticate you as the server owner (allow you to make changes)

Here are the logs.

It’s extremely noisy on your LAN. It’s advertising itself as a player but not using standard protocols. Is it known to you.

I am seeing it scanning & adding media as new.

Do you have some other process running?

192.168.1.15 & 192.168.1.16 are both TiVo’s. They run 24/7. They both have Plex apps.
We have had them since before Plex.
The problem with Plex has just started happening.

What do you mean by other process?

Programs which download music files and place those files in your media library for Plex to find

No, all the music is from my own CD’s and Vinyl.

Attached is an example of what is happening.

I might be wrong, but from that snippet of logs, it looks like you have snapshots enabled on your Music folder and Plex is scanning the Snapshot directory as well.

Ok, how can I change that?

I’ve got rid of the snapshots and my next task is to copy my music folder onto another drive before deleting the music section in plex.
Is this the best way to achieve a new music section in plex?

Hi jrs007, I stumpled upon your post today having the same issue. With your help I found out, that the snapshots are the troublemaker! So I took a closer lock to the options that the NAS give me , and found a way to make them unvisible to plex:
-open Snapshot Replication

  • choose Music (for example)
  • Settings
  • Extended
  • remove the check “snapshot visible”

This helped me!

btw. : excuse my poor english
Greetings from Germany!
