I’ve been looking through the Forums, & I’ve Found this like The Absolute Series Scanner, BABS, S-BABS, Plex Anime Scanner, but none of them seem to address this issue. I’ve seen in discussions people ask about it, but it never gets an answer.
I have no problem renaming my files, in fact I keep my file names pretty clean, but I have a library with a bunch of anime, & some serious issues. Some of the things that Plex just doesn’t handle is series that have half episodes, now usually these are OVA or specials that just come between the episodes, but there are series with legit episodes that are recaps that come between episode 36 & 37. TheTVDB will just number Episode 36.5 as 37, then 37 as 38, 38 as 39, etc, etc. This creates problems when trying to reference with anything else because the episode numbers are wrong, sometimes even the titlecard will have the episode number & it’s just wrong. I’ve accepted that this is just how Plex is & it isn’t going to change. I will actually manually go in & number 36.5 as 136, then 37 becomes 137, etc. This means that I must manually name & add air date & descriptions for my episodes. I’m okay with that, I don’t bulk torrent shows or anything & it’s a simple, though monotonous task I can complete while watching stuff anyways. But then there are shows like Fairy Tail. I’ve got the 1st 150 episodes ripped & added but the numbering is a problem. The OVAs aren’t story progressing, so I like them to remain in the “Specials” Season 0, there aren’t really any “.5” episodes, but as there are no distinct seasons it’s either hard to navigate as a single season, or the “Seasons” are split mid-arc & illogically.
Now, for Season Folders I generally have them named, “Season 4.1 - Phantom Lord Arc”, “Season 4.2 - Loke Arc”, “Season 5 - Tower Of Heaven Arc”, etc. The files inside both 4.1 & 4.2 are labeled “Fairy Tail S04E021 - The Phantom Lord”, “Fairy Tail S04E030 - Next Generation” & they sort just fine keeping both folder’s files in the same season within Plex.
I would like to have the scanner look at either the folder (I’ll happily combine both “Season 4’s” into a “Season 4 - Phantom Lord & Loke Arc” folder if needed) & say "This is season 4, put it in Season 4 folder or look at the file & say “hey, this is season 4, put it in season 4 folder” but have the episode titles ignore the season & either treat it as season internally & number them properly through ideally TVDB (The other scanners seem to make the Trakt scrobbler not work properly & I’d like to keep that functionality) or whatever other source will make it work, Letting me Sort things like Fairy Tail into Arcs instead of arbitrary seasons where I can use the java shortcut to rename the seasons & have something that can be sensibly navigated.
I’m not an experienced coder, but I do know the basics & don’t mind doing the work if someone who knows that they’re doing can tell me that the functionality is possible & point me in a direction to start. I’m currently on a forced Quarantine so I’m not even working & have plenty of time
