For my Anime Library, I have all files named using Absolute numbering from theTVDB and usually it doesn’t cause issues, but for one of my shows there are numbers in the episode titles and it’s causing plex to think for example episode 4 is actually episode 614, episode 3 is episode 99 etc.
My files are named thus:
'Joran The Princess of Snow and Blood - 01 - Confidential File 101, The Blue Flower of Carnage.mkv'
'Joran The Princess of Snow and Blood - 02 - Confidential File 033, The Treasurer.mkv'
'Joran The Princess of Snow and Blood - 03 - Confidential File 614, The Enemy Within.mkv'
'Joran The Princess of Snow and Blood - 04 - Confidential Case File 099, Kuchinawa.mkv'
How can I fix them? Even when I rename the titles, the episode numbers don’t change.
It is a solution. You cannot claim malfunction of Plex if you don’t follow the rules.
I have all my Anime organized in this way and it all works as intended.
Just to mention for others who might see this thread, if you use Absolute Order from TVDB, it’s all considered season 1 so the file naming would work better with the S01E62 style of format (Joran Absolute at TVDB).
I have also skipped fixing file names that didn’t have S##E## naming and can get away with it sometimes (particularly for Season 1 or absolute ordering) when I’m feeling lazy, but I know it’s not “right” for Plex or other media centers so have to fix it for things like your scenario where other numbers intrude on it (other anime with “Case 44” in the title for example).
Another option for renaming would be to put the episode title in [brackets] as that gets ignored. Since that’s renaming anyways though it’s just a personal preference vs functional setup.
FileBot is usually the recommended tool in these forums for auto naming files to make things easier, including Anime and TVDB matching (among others including AniDB). Anime episode naming is all over the place unfortunately.
Edit: That Absolute Series Scanner is pretty neat!
