Scanning anomally

So recently I was trying to add season 2 of the mentalist and it contains an episode named “18-4-5” which is episode 21 of the season. For some reason only one episode was available after scanning the library and it was the 18th episode named “Aangavita Baa”. When I checked the file location however it turned out the file that was matched to this episode was the aforementioned “18-4-5”. I tried a bunch of things and checked the naming convention like 12 times but all the episodes are labeled correctly. I figured Plex must have somehow considered the 18 in the name of the episode as the episode number not the name. Which is strange because the season number and episode is clearly listed as S2E21 just before the title. However adding the number of the episode behind the S2EXX fixed this issues and allowed me to scan all the episodes. So now I am using S2E01 01 for the first episode and so on and so forth.

The problem is that now Plex seems to require this naming convention of new shows as well. I tried to add burn notice with the correct naming convention but nothing happened. Adding the extra episode number to the first episode suddenly allowed it to be scanned. I have no idea what is going on here and I dread a future where I have to manually add the episode number an extra time to each episode of every new show.

what was the actual file name? was it an mp4 or an mkv?

Try something like this. This is the way I have it and it matches correctly

The Mentalist.S02E21.18-5-4

I suspect you have something more closely related to this

The Mentalist (2008) - s02e21 - 18-5-4
or
The Mentalist (2008) - s02e21-18-5-4

Thanks! I do have like this “The Mentalist (2008) - s02e21 - 18-5-4” originally. I guess I will try out the plex dance because otherwise I have to change all the filenames

I think this is the part that confuses the scanner if there’s a dash

You don’t have a Plex pass but it looks like a solution might be in the works at least
